FOX SECURES UNPRECEDENTED RENEWABLE ENERGY FOR THE SHRINE AUDITORIUM; SOLAR PANEL ARRAY TO POWER ARRIVALS FOR THE "59TH PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS" SUNDAY, SEPT. 16, LIVE ON FOX

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, AEG Ehrlich Ventures and FOX Finalize "Green with Emmy" Initiatives

FOX has finalized its "Green with Emmy" campaign by securing renewable energy for the month of September for the Shrine Auditorium and by installing a solar panel canopy over the Red Carpet grandstands for the 59TH PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS airing live Sunday, Sept. 16 (8:00-11:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. These eco-friendly initiatives will reduce the carbon footprint of the Emmys, as part of FOX's ongoing effort to reduce its impact on the world's climate and become carbon neutral by 2010.

FOX, in partnership with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), secured renewable energy for the Shrine Auditorium for the first time in Emmy or Shrine history. The power will be provided by LADWP's "Green Power for a Green LA Program" and sources will include a combination of solar energy, wind energy and hydropower. Find out more about these low-carbon energy sources at http://www.ladwp.com/ladwp/cms/ladwp001220.jsp .

In another unprecedented element, FOX will install a solar panel canopy a UNI-SOLAR 12.5 KW Solar PV System (www.uni-solar.com) over the Primetime Emmy Red Carpet grandstand to supplement the power for the red carpet area. The renewable energy source provided by United Solar Ovonic, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENER), will feature laminates installed on 2,700 square feet of slate blue standing seam metal roofing manufactured by Englert, Inc. to form a sun canopy. The solar system will be tied into the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power utility grid and will reduce the amount of power FOX will pull from generators and the LADWP.

After the Primetime Emmys, the solar panel system will be donated to a middle school in Chatsworth, CA. Once permanently installed, the system will mitigate an average of 28,172 pounds (or 14 tons) of CO2 each year (in addition to 120 pounds of SO2 and 60 pounds of NOx), and will generate renewable energy for the next 25 years.

The "Green with Emmy" campaign encompasses all major Television Academy and FOX events, including the Nomination Announcement, the 59TH PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS arrivals and telecast, the Creative Arts and Governors balls, and the FOX Emmy Awards after-party.

Additional highlights of the FOX, Television Academy and AEG Ehrlich Ventures "Green with Emmy" campaign include:

The media press tent is entirely incandescent-free. The tent will be illuminated by LED and/or fluorescent lighting, reducing the power need by approximately 75%. All press will also use LED and/or fluorescent lights (no incandescent lights were allowed).

The arrivals red carpet is made of 100% post consumer waste PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottles. Approximately 95,000 bottles were recycled for the arrivals carpet. Similarly, the stage area's blue carpet is also made from 100% post consumer waste PET plastic bottles. Both carpets will be reused following the event.

Hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles will be used for transportation for participating talent.

Supplemental power for all Shrine Auditorium Emmy activities will be provided by generators using B-20 biodiesel fuel.

A recycling program for batteries, paper, bottles and plastic was set up across all Emmy production entities.

The Primetime Emmy Awards set has been designed to eliminate the need for construction and disposal by primarily using rentals as well as reusable flooring.

The stage's plywood flooring will be reused for local construction while the stage carpeting is made from recycled plastic bottles and will also be reused. Additional stage elements will be stored and reused for future productions.

For the first time, the Architectural Digest Green Room will be green both ecologically and in color, with various shades used throughout. The room's wood-paneled walls are being constructed with reclaimed wood from a local California high school football stadium, and all textiles are made with 100% natural fibers. Presenters will watch the onstage action on the green room's Sharp AQUOS Liquid Crystal Televisions; the company is at the forefront of eco-consciousness, from the elimination of PVCs in manufacturing, to its award-winning "Super Green Factory," which will completely offset its production of greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2010.

Locally grown and/or organic foods will be served to production staff, press and event guests.

Events teams will use reusable service ware including glasses, plates, silverware, serving platters and trays. Tables and chairs are rented and reusable.

Crew wardrobe, provided by California Rising, was made from organic cotton or hemp.

The Television Academy has used 100% recycled paper almost entirely from 100% post-consumer waste for the Creative Arts and Primetime Emmy Awards collateral items, such as invitations, tickets, posters, programs, press materials and office paper. The manufacturing plants were powered by wind power.

All plants in the arrivals area and media areas are rented and therefore reusable living plants (no cut plants).

For the Emmy Nominations Announcement, the Television Academy implemented many eco-friendly initiatives, including sourcing power from a generator using biofuels; using 100% recycled paper for all press and production materials; replacing plastic and Styrofoam plates, napkins, cups and utensils made from biodegradable products; and, when possible, using rented and reusable items for staging and production.

LADWP, the largest municipally owned utility in the nation, was established more than 100 years ago to provide water and electricity to meet the needs of the City's residents and businesses. LADWP currently serves about four million people in the City of Los Angeles.

The Green Power Program is just one part of the LADWP Green LA Environmental Programs, which also include Energy and Water Conservation, Trees for a Green LA in conjunction with the Million Tree Initiative, Solar Power, Green Building efforts and Recycling. Information on these environmental programs, as well as energy and water saving tips, are available at the LADWP web site www.ladwp.com or by calling 1-800-Green LA.

United Solar Ovonic, building on technology invented and pioneered by ECD, is the world leader in thin-film amorphous photovoltaics. Because of characteristics unique to the United Solar Ovonic solar cell technology, such as light weight, ruggedness and flexibility, it is ideal as building-integrated photovoltaic roofing systems for residential and industrial customers. ECD and United Solar Ovonic hold the basic patents covering the continuous roll-to-roll manufacturing of thin-film amorphous-silicon alloy multi-junction solar cells and related products. More information is available at www.uni-solar.com.

Produced by AEG Ehrlich Ventures LLC, the 59TH PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS on FOX will originate from the historic Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
