A U.S. ROAD TRIP, A HIGH SPEED CRASH, PLUS HUGH GRANT RACES A COMPACT CAR ON BBC AMERICA
If you haven't given the Emmy-winning Top Gear a test drive, it's time to sit down and buckle up as the season hits full speed with super-cars, stunts and extreme challenges including a U.S. road trip special. Miles away from earnest road tests or statistics, here cars are just a starting point for the adventures of three refreshingly irreverent hosts. The tall and witty Jeremy Clarkson, leads the trio with his heavy right foot, Richard Hammond is the feisty daredevil with soap star looks, and James May (aka Captain slow) with his amiable shaggy dog appearance and wry humour completes the gang on one of the UK's most popular all-time television franchises. Top Gear episodes premiere every Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Following a remarkable recovery, Richard Hammond talks about driving a jet-engined Vampire car and shows the footage of him reaching speeds of over 300 mph until his final run when he crashes at a terrifying 288 mph. It's a serious moment in the show's history but after a few warm wishes, the teasing resumes. With Richard back in action, the three set off on a challenge to fight all drivers' worst enemy, delayed road construction. Joined by a team of workers, they attempt to do a week's worth of road resurfacing in just 24 hours. As a perk for all his manual labor, Jeremy gets behind the wheel of the supercharged Jaguar XKR to decide if it's a match for its Teutonic rivals.
Premieres Monday, October 8 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT
Earlier in the season Gordon Ramsay set a track record for speed and swearing, now Hugh Grant is the Star in a Reasonably Priced-Car on the test track to see if he can retain his leading man status. We find out that Hugh hasn't always driven Bentleys or Porsches and can occasionally get a little bit of road rage. Hitting the road, James (aka Captain Slow) goes to Volkswagen's top secret test track in Germany and drives the Bugatti Veyron faster than he has ever gone or likely ever will, hitting a maximum speed of 253mph. Then Jeremy, James and Richard take Audi, Mazda, and Alfa Romeo coupes to Scotland for a round of golf and to attempt to persuade the Scottish Gallery of Art that their coupe could be considered a work of art.
Premieres Monday, October 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT
Jeremy, Richard and James take their British charm on a road trip through several southern states in America - Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana - and complete various challenges along the way. It's fair to say they are out of their element from the very beginning in Miami where they each buy a car for under $1,000 and drive them to New Orleans. Will it be cheaper and less hassle than renting a car? Will they make their money back when selling them on in New Orleans? Like any great road trip, the guys go camping, play road games and are chased by the locals. The journey ends in New Orleans where they witness firsthand the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. At that point they abandon any attempt to sell the cars and give them away to people affected by the hurricane.
Premieres Monday, October 22 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT
