UNIVERSAL HD STARTS THE HOLIDAY SEASON WITH EXCLUSIVE SPORTING EVENTS PLUS HIT SERIES AND BLOCKBUSTER MOVIES
BURBANK, Calif. � November 6, 2007 � Starting this November, Universal HD -- the destination for the cutting-edge, high-definition programming -- brings its audience more movies, back-to-back series and sports than ever before, all in 1080i High Definition. As a result, Universal HD will be the exclusive home of the USA Women and Men's Olympic Volleyball hopefuls in international qualification for the 2007 Summer Olympic Games.
"Universal HD is offering the perfect mix of original sports programming and hit movies in November," said Dan Harrison, Senior Vice President, Emerging Networks, NBC Universal Cable. "This month really showcases the many forms of entertainment we have to offer in high-def."
Universal HD kicks off November with GREEN WEEK from Monday November 5 � Friday November 9 from 7 p.m. � 5 a.m. (ET). Universal HD will devote an entire week to "thinking green" with movies, series and sports. Specially selected episodes of Jeep World of Adventure featuring carbon-neutral sports from around the planet air each night at 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. (ET).
Movies showcasing the beauty of the planet run throughout the week, beginning with Madonna in Swept Away on Monday November 5 at 8 p.m. and 12 midnight (ET) followed by Universal HD Presents Live Earth Green Shorts Volume 1 at 9:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. (ET). Then, Ride the Wild Surf at 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. (ET).
Kevin Bacon and Sean Astin embark on a wilderness adventure in White Water Summer on Tuesday November 6 at 8 p.m. and 12 midnight (ET). Universal HD Presents Live Earth Green Shorts, Volume 2 continues at 9:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. (ET). The Milagro Beanfield War erupts when farmers battle developers over water-use laws at 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. (ET).
On this week's SUNDANCE ON UNIVERSAL HD, Iconoclasts that showcases eco-friendly surfers Eddie Vedder and Laird Hamilton at 8 p.m. and 11p.m. (ET) on Wednesday, November 7. Big Ideas for a Small Planet feature green tips with "Fuel" at 9 p.m. and 12 midnight (ET) and "Build" at 10:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m.. Iconoclasts returns with Mikhail Baryshnikov and Alice Waters at 9:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. (ET).
Paul Hogan and Elijah Wood fight to clean up the ocean home of everyone's favorite dolphin in Flipper at 8 p.m. and 12 a.m. (ET) then viewers can experience nature's beauty in Return to the Blue Lagoon at 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. (ET).
On Friday November 9, enjoy a marathon of Big Ideas for a Small Planet at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. (ET). Universal HD Presents Live Earth Green Shorts Volume 1 encores at 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. (ET) and Volume 2 returns at 10:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. (ET).
Beginning Monday November 12, audiences can cheer on the USA Olympic Women's Volleyball team in 11 matches of 2007 World Cup Volleyball featured every weeknight at 6 p.m. (ET). On Wednesday November 28 at 6 p.m. (ET), Universal HD begins presenting the USA Men's team in the first of their 11 nightly matches.
Thanksgiving comes with a generous portion of great hi-def content as Universal HD presents UNIVERSAL HD THANKSGIVING WEEKEND on Thursday November 22 through Sunday November 25. Viewers can spend all day with the families of Sons & Daughters, Flipper, The Best of Times, Dad, Leave It to Beaver, For Richer or Poorer, About a Boy and Sweet Heart's Dance. The excitement continues with The 2007 AST Dew Tour: Playstation Pro Tour and World Cup Volleyball.
Universal HD doesn't settle for leftovers for the remainder of the weekend. Friday November 23 begins with movie specials of Midway at 9 a.m. (ET) and The Pianist at 11:30 a.m. (ET). The 2007 National Dog Show comes to Universal HD at 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. (ET) joined by Kurt Browning's Gotta Skate VII at 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. (ET). Jean-Claude Van Damme faces Sudden Death at 1 a.m. (ET).
Sports will also be on the menu on Saturday November 24 with the US Open Tennis Showcase at 8 a.m. (ET) and World Cup Volleyball: Best of Women's Matches at 10 a.m. (ET). Then, it's back-to-back action movies with Krull at 12 noon and 6 p.m. (ET), The Eiger Sanction at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. (ET), The Hunted at 4 p.m. (ET) and Empire at 10 p.m. (ET). A special encore of the 2007 Bayou Classic follows at 12 midnight (ET).
Thanksgiving weekend wraps up on Sunday, November 25, with more action movies and sports with The Hunted at 6 a.m. (ET), the 2007 Bayou Classic at 9 a.m. (ET), the 2007 National Dog Show at 2 p.m. (ET) and Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story at 4 p.m. and 1 a.m. (ET). Tom Cruise drives it home with Days of Thunder at 9 p.m. (ET).
Throughout November, Universal HD will turn up the excitement with Uni HD X-TREME FRIDAYS beginning at 8 p.m. (ET). Featured programming includes action-packed movies such as Daylight, The Hurricane, Sudden Death and The Underneath, plus new episodes of The Jeep World of Adventure Sports HD and The 2007 Dew Action Sports Tour.
