LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- "Kaya," MTV's first scripted series in over five years, is getting a new home.
The show previously aired on Mondays at 10:30/9:30c until this week, when it was quietly yanked from the schedule. New episodes will now resume on Saturday nights at 10:00/9:00c starting November 24.
The news marks a major demotion for the series, which will no longer have the network's top show, "The Hills," as its lead-in. First-run episodes of "The Hills" have averaged about 3.4 million viewers and have cracked the top 15 of all cable series nine of the past 13 weeks.
Nielsen data on "Kaya" was not released however one assumes - based on the time period change - it wasn't holding enough of its "Hills" lead-in.
Tony Krantz, Deborah Joy LeVine and Steve Levitan serve as the executive producers of "Kaya," a co-venture between MTV and Protocol Entertainment.
Meanwhile, fellow newcomer "Making Menudo" is shifting yet again - this time to weekdays at 3:00/2:00c.
The reality series bowed on Thursday, October 25 at 10:30/9:30c where it posted a paltry 543,000 viewers and held less than 34% of its lead-in "Run's House" (1.6 million). The network subsequently banished the show to Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. EST the following week.
Now "Menudo" will finish out its run as a lead-in to "TRL" effective this week. (Click here for the air schedule.)
Reveille and Menudo Entertainment are behind "Menudo," which is executive produced by Rick De Oliveira, Lois Curren and Lily Neumeyer.
