WE tv Continues to Expand Original Programming Slate With Ugliest House on the Block
New York, NY - December 17, 2007 - Building on the momentum of WE tv's increased original programming slate, the network announced today Ugliest House on the Block, a new series featuring neighbors and a team of experts who work together to reconstruct and redecorate a home within their community, that is in serious need of a total makeover. The 6, one-hour episodes are scheduled to premiere in January of 2008. Ugliest House on the Block is produced by North South Productions.
"Home decorating and design is a genre that has mass appeal for women and we look forward to adding Ugliest House to our ever-growing slate of original, fun and engaging series," said Kim Martin, EVP and GM for WE tv. "The expansion of WE tv's slate of original programming further solidifies our network's commitment to cater to the varied interests of women with compelling, quality programs."
Ugliest House on the Block visits various residential neighborhoods and sends in a team of experts to fix up a house making it one of the nicest ones on the block, all within the span of 4 days. They use a team of expert carpenters and designers, as well as, the neighbors to pitch in and help repair the outside faade and yard to improve its curb appeal and decrease the neighbors' embarrassment of the shabby house within this neighborhood. The series comes to the rescue of homeowners who don't have the time or the money to renovate their home in order to fit in with the rest of the houses on their block.
Episodes of Ugliest House on the Block include eco-friendly segments providing tips for viewers on "green" products for home use and design. Home renovations focus on curbside appeal including landscaping, painting and mid-level carpentry such as adding shutters or installing new doors. The finale of each episode showcases the big unveiling of the newly renovated house, as well as, the reaction of the grateful neighbor and happy neighborhood team.
Ugliest House on the Block is hosted by Chris Leary, best known for his work on the TechTV television programs Fresh Gear and TechLive. Leary is joined by a team of experts including home improvement guru Leslie Segrete, who can be seen on TLC's hit series Trading Spaces and While You Were Out; James Lunday, the resident Australian and self-described "dirty dingo" and landscaper Michael "Red" Baron who's the founder and operator of Western Pacific Landscaping.
