Universal Media Studios Series Set to Make Broadcast Weekend Syndication Debuts in Fall 2008
"House" Continues To Be Fox's Highest-Rated Scripted Series; "Monk" Coming Off Best-Ever Ratings with USA Network Season Finale
UNIVERSAL CITY, CA�March 17, 2008�NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution has sold hit series "House" and "Monk" to local broadcast stations in 99% of the U.S. for weekend syndication runs starting this fall, it was announced today by Sean O'Boyle, Senior Vice President and General Sales Manager, NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution.
"House," Fox's highest-rated scripted series, has been sold to stations from Fox, CBS, Tribune, Sinclair, Clear Channel, Meredith, Media General, Cox and more. Top markets for "House" in syndication include WNYW-TV New York, KTTV-TV Los Angeles, WFLD-TV Chicago and KPIX-TV San Francisco.
"Monk," one of the highest-rated original scripted series in basic cable history, has been sold to stations from NBC, CBS, Fox, Hearst-Argyle, Tribune, Fisher, Scripps, Raycom, Belo, Post-Newsweek and other leading station groups. Top markets for "Monk" include WNBC-TV New York, KNBC-TV Los Angeles and WFLD-TV Chicago, as well as WPHL-TV Philadelphia, WSBK-TV Boston, KNTV-TV San Francisco and WFAA-TV Dallas.
"'House' and 'Monk' are two of the most successful shows in their respective genres over the last decade and both will make ideal weekend programming for local broadcasters," says O'Boyle. "And both shows are quality productions and continue to be ratings hits; 'House' is Fox's highest-rated scripted series and off to its best start ever, while 'Monk' just ended its sixth season on USA with its most watched episode ever."
Currently in its fourth season in primetime, "House" is off to its strongest start ever. "House" is #1 in its time period with adults 18-49 and averages 17.6 million viewers per week. "House" is currently Fox's #1 scripted series in households, viewers, Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 and the #2 scripted series in Adults 18-49 in all of primetime.
"House is produced by Universal Media Studios in association with Heel and Toe Films, Shore Z Productions and Bad Hat Harry Productions. The series features an ensemble cast and is led by Golden Globe and SAG Award-winner Hugh Laurie. Katie Jacobs, Paul Attanasio, David Shore, Bryan Singer, Russel Friend, Garrett Lerner and Thomas L. Moran are the show's executive producers.
"Monk" just ended its sixth season on USA Network with a bang. The season finale last month scored the show's most viewers ever, attracting nearly seven million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.
"Monk," the critically acclaimed original series stars Tony Shalhoub ("Big Night," "Wings," "Men in Black"), who has now won three Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award and two SAG Awards for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Adrian Monk, a brilliant detective who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder.
