SIGMA DELTA CHI AWARD CAPS A BANNER YEAR FOR MAJOR AWARDS WON BY "60 MINUTES"

The Society of Professional Journalists has named 60 MINUTES the winner of its 2007 Investigative Reporting award in the Network/Top 25 Market category. The award recognizes a television story reported by Steve Kroft that was a 60 MINUTES/Washington Post joint investigation.

The honor caps a banner year for major journalism awards won by the number-one news magazine, now in its 40th year.

The Sigma Delta Chi award goes to "Evidence of Injustice," broadcast on 60 MINUTES Nov. 18, 2008, with a print version written by reporter John Solomon appearing in The Washington Post on the same day. The story revealed for the first time that the "science" of bullet lead analysis, used to convict hundreds of defendants, was deeply flawed. Ira Rosen produced it; the associate producer was Sumi Aggarwal; the editor was Matt Richman.

It was the eighth major journalism award won by the news magazine since the 2007-08 season began. Since September, 60 MINUTES has also won four Emmys, an Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Silver Baton, a Peabody, and an RTNDA Edward R. Murrow award.
