G4 ANNOUNCES SEASON TWO OF ITS ANIMATED 8-BIT HIT "CODE MONKEYS" PREMIERING JUNE 1
In Advance of the New Season, G4 Will Premiere "Code Monkeys: The Story of 420" On April 20 Featuring Special Guest Star Tommy Chong
LOS ANGELES, April 17, 2007 G4 announces the return of "Code Monkeys," the outrageous comedy series that follows the misadventures of the staff at GameAvision, a videogame company where the crew's crazy antics ascend any of their own video creations. In season two, creator Adam de la Pea (The Man Show, Crank Yankers) sends the rowdy staff on more side-splitting adventures that parody the golden age of videogames and 1980's pop culture in classic 8-bit style. The series also features cameos of industry icons who help them along the way. No one and nothing is beyond ridicule when the new season of "Code Monkeys" premieres June 1at 7pm ET/PT, only on G4.
"'Code Monkeys' authentic, old-school videogame theme resonates with our young male audience, many of whom are rather familiar with the 8-bit style of retro gaming," said Neal Tiles, President, G4. "The series has been a huge success for G4, reaching more than 20 million viewers in its first season. Code Monkeys fans are in for another wild ride summer with the all-new second season."
"This year I promise Code Monkey's will be 70% more awesomer!" said show creator Adam de la Pena. In season two of "Code Monkeys" the uncontrollable GameAvision crew embarks on a series of new outrageous adventures. Episodes will include the creation of a murderous teddy bear, breast implants for staffers and much more. Additionally, several icons of the videogame industry appear this season, including God of War's Dave Jaffe and Scott Campbell and Death Race's Howell Ivy, and quickly get tangled into the web of chaos at GameAvision, as the inappropriate cast of characters continues to wreak more havoc in the office than create successful games.
To allay the wait for the new second season, G4 delivers an early episode commemorating the pop culture phenomenon of 4/20 which the characters prove to know so well. The special features guest star Tommy Chong who leads the "Code Monkeys" crew on a hazy adventure filled with plenty of high-jinks. Armed with a magic map, the crew will embark on a treasure hunt for the meaning of "420". Don't miss "Code Monkeys: The Story of 4/20" on April 20 at 5:00 pm ET/PT, airing as part of G4's "4/20" night of programming, to find out.
"Code Monkeys" animation is a throw back to the early days of electronic entertainment, when the ability to display single pixels represented the height of graphic achievement. Each episode looks and sounds like an old-school videogame, complete with an onscreen status bar, but games aren't the things that fall in "Code Monkeys" 8-bit crosshairs icons from across the pop culture landscape are assaulted with the irreverence they deserve.
