(Silver Spring, Md.) � The first season of Discovery Channel's THE ALASKA EXPERIMENT finished strong with the final episode, airing Tuesday, June 3rd at 10 PM ET/PT, garnering 1.7 million viewers. Overall, the series averaged a P2+ delivery of over 1.8 million viewers and significantly improved its timeslot delivery compared to the six weeks prior to air among P2+ (17%) and P25-54 (23%).
Building on the success of the series, Discovery Channel will air a one-hour special THE ALASKA EXPERIMENT: BACK FROM THE WILD on Tuesday, June 10th at 10 PM ET/PT. This special, hosted by Les Stroud of Discovery Channel's SURVIVORMAN, gives viewers an insight into the trials and tribulations of the people who volunteered to live for nearly three months in one of the harshest environments on earth � the Alaskan wilderness.
The experience was life-changing for the participants, all of whom said they had no regrets about the decision to participate and would do it again if asked. One couple was so moved by the experience, after returning home they quit their office jobs and plan to move back to Alaska to live full-time.
THE ALASKA EXPERIMENT is a dramatic and visceral series that pits Man against Nature in an epic struggle. Diverse teams are placed in four different, challenging landscapes and equipped with basic food stuffs and equipment, but to survive, they need to learn to hunt, fish, and cut their own firewood. Through tests that provide real data including, weight, body mass index, blood sugars, cholesterol, ketosis, and stress, viewers follow how the teams physically and psychologically change in this nearly three-month struggle against nature.
