BBC AMERICA ACQUIRES AWARD-WINNING DRAMA BRITZ
BBC AMERICA has acquired U.S. premiere drama Britz, from critically acclaimed and multi award-winning writer and director, Peter Kosminsky (Peacekeepers, The Government Inspector), airing November 2008.
Britz (2 x 120) produced by Daybreak Pictures (a division of Mentorn Media) and distributed by Channel 4 International.
Powerful, award-winning drama, Britz sees a brother and sister, both British born Muslims, pulled in radically different directions by conflicting personal experiences in post 9/11 Britain. Split into two halves, the controversial thriller tells both their stories.
Sohail (Riz Ahmed, The Road to Guantanamo) is an ambitious law undergraduate with a desire to assimilate into every aspect of contemporary British culture. His sister Nasima (Manjinder Virk, Bradford Riots), a medical student, is deeply suspicious of the British establishment and spends much of her time campaigning against, what she considers to be, repressive government policies.
This gritty and unflinching drama follows a tragic sequence of events to a shocking conclusion. Written from two distinct perspectives, it is a revealing examination of British Muslim life under current anti-terror legislation.
