"Scream Queens" Premieres on VH1 on Monday, October 20 at 10:00 PM*
NEW YORK, NY October 6, 2008 Everyone knows that at the heart of every successful horror film is a strong, sexy woman with a good set of lungsa "scream queen." Premiering Monday, October 20 at 10:00 PM*, VH1's new original series, "Scream Queens" will gather 10 unknown actresses in search of their big break to vie for an extraordinary prize - a breakout role in Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures' SAW VI, the latest installment in one of the most successful horror movie franchises ever.
The contestants will compete in a series of demanding challenges designed to prove they have the talent, smarts, and strength to succeed. The challenges will test these aspiring actresses in ways they never thought possible to see who has what it takes, and who cracks under the pressure.
Over the course of the eight-part series, the cast will be schooled by Hollywood's toughest acting coach, John Homa, who has worked with starlets Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams; actress Shawnee Smith, star of SAW I, II and III; and writer/ director/actor, James Gunn, known for writing and directing the acclaimed horror/comedy, Slither. The three will also judge the competition.
In each one-hour episode, the actresses' skills and progress will be scrutinized. Those skilled and sexy enough to command the screen survive. The others will "get the axe" until only one strong, seductive and stellar actress remains. Brimming with drama, catfights and, of course, tears, "Scream Queens" is one horror show you don't want to miss.
"Scream Queens" will feature music from recording artists signed to Wind-Up Records label. The first episode features VH1's "You Oughta Know" artist Thriving Ivory, as well as music from the bands Seether, People in Planes and Tickle Me Pink.
Episodes of "Scream Queens" will be available on VH1.com following their on-air premieres. In addition to full episodes, show highlights, casting tapes and exit interviews will all be available online.
The series is produced by Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF), the leading next generation filmed entertainment studio, in conjunction with Joke Productions and VH1. "Scream Queens" is executive produced by Joke Fincioen and Biagio Messina for Joke Productions. Jim Ackerman, Dave Hamilton and Jeff Olde are executive producers for VH1.
