New York, NY October 15, 2008 -- WE tv's original series The Locator broke records premiering as the highest rated premiere ever for the network and as the network's most watched telecasts ever. The Locator finale airs Saturday, October 25 at 9pm/8c and on the heels of the first season success, a second season will go into production set to premiere Valentine's Day, February 14, 2009. The second season will continue featuring Troy Dunn on his quest to help families find their lost loved ones with a new family each episode.
Dunn's dream of inspiring viewers to look for their own lost loved ones has come true. Since the show has aired, the on-air viewership has spun into an online community, WEtv.com/thelocator, that serves as a virtual meeting place, attracting fans of the show, adoption registry enthusiasts and connection hobbyists alike. Blown away by the response to the show on-air and online, Dunn commented, "When I started my career connecting lost loved ones, my goal was to reunite half the world with the other half. I'm so grateful that WE tv has given me the opportunity to share these stories with millions of viewers and to continue making dreams come true with The Locator 2."
INSPIRED VIEWERS FINDING LOST LOVED ONES
Success stories are popping up via the web community on WEtv.com/thelocator's "Share Your Story" feature. In one instance, a viewer from San Diego who had been searching for her birth mother for over 20 years, posted on the site and through another member, who had access to a local adoption registry, was able to connect with her mom within 48 hours. In another case, a daughter from Georgia who had been looking for her father for eight years found out about a Freedom of Information Act on our site and used that information to find her father's whereabouts. She located him in Alabama within 20 minutes of submitting her Freedom of Information Act request. Viewers can also apply online to be selected for The Locator's next "angel" case for the second season.
Kim Martin, president and general manager for WE tv, said "Season one of The Locator exceeded our expectations, increasing viewership and breaking records for the network. We believe in this show and feel that the viewer response on-air and online is a testament to the emotional stories and transformations that really resonate with our female viewers. "
In the second season, The Locator will continue to follow emotional journeys of families seeking their lost loved ones; adoptees seeking their biological parents, siblings separated at birth, unique situations where people have been separated from loved ones by a divorce, a move, a tragedy and other circumstances. With a team of professionals including Troy's mother Katie, who was adopted herself, Troy locates the sought-after person and prepares both parties for an unforgettable, life-changing reunion where anything can happen. The series is produced by Asylum Entertainment.
