COMEDY CENTRAL(R) Signs Deal With Comedian Jo Koy for One-Hour Stand-Up Special
Stand-up Special to Tape November 6 at the New York Comedy Festival
NEW YORK, Oct. 23 -- COMEDY CENTRAL has signed dynamic
comedian Jo Koy to shoot a one-hour stand-up special, it was announced
today by Elizabeth Porter, senior vice president, specials and talent,
COMEDY CENTRAL. Executive produced by Jo Koy and Dakota Pictures Troy
Miller and Tracey Baird, the stand-up special will tape on November 6 at
the New York Comedy Festival and will air in the first quarter of 2009.
"We've been tracking Jo Koy for a while and we saw him crush on Carlos
Mencia's 'Punisher' tour," said Porter. "He's a young guy with a really
inclusive voice -- it's going to be great to put him out front in such a
big way."
Named one of the "10 comics to watch" in 2007 by Daily Variety, Jo
Koy's captivating energy on stage and his approachable persona off-stage
has his earned him a reputation as a "comic for the people." In 2005, Jo
Koy received a standing ovation for his performance on "The Tonight Show
with Jay Leno," one of only a select few in the history of the show. Jo Koy
participated in Carlos Mencia's "Punisher Tour," performing in front of
10,000-seat arenas across the country and has appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel
Live" and "Last Call with Carson Daly." He starred in a "COMEDY CENTRAL
Presents" half-hour stand-up special as well as BET's "Comic View," and
"Jamie Foxx Presents: Laffapalooza!"
Jo Koy's one-hour COMEDY CENTRAL Original Stand-up special will be
executive produced by Jo Koy and Dakota Pictures' Miller and Baird. Porter
is the executive in charge of production for COMEDY CENTRAL.
