COMEDY CENTRAL(R) to Shoot Two New Pilots 'Ugly Americans' and 'Evan and Gareth Are Trying to Get Laid'
Pilots Feature An Animated Spin-Off Of A comedycentral.com Original And
A Scripted Narrative
NEW YORK, Nov. 13 -- COMEDY CENTRAL has commenced
production on two new pilots, it was announced today by Lauren Corrao,
president, original programming and development, COMEDY CENTRAL. The pilots
are "Ugly Americans," an animated project about an alternate universe in
New York City that is being spun off from the comedycentral.com original
series, "5-On" and "Evan and Gareth Are Trying to Get Laid," a scripted
narrative about two guys who work at a male advice web site.
"We came to know the creators behind 'Ugly Americans' and 'Evan and
Gareth Are Trying To Get Laid' from their work on the Web and feel their
creative ideas can carry over to our on-air channel," said Corrao.
Take New York City, add every horrifying beast, science-fiction freak
and fantasy faerie, shake thoroughly and you've got "Ugly Americans." The
animated series follows Mark Lilly, a social worker at the Department of
Immigration, as he helps new citizens both human and "other" adapt to
hectic life in the Big Apple. There are easier tasks than weaning vampires
from blood, socializing land-whales and housebreaking werewolves, but Mark
is up to the challenge. Between his stressful job, a zombie roommate and a
demon girlfriend, Mark's lucky if he can sneak in a few minutes of sleep.
But who can sleep when there's a drop-dead gorgeous mermaid sitting at the
bar? "Ugly Americans" is executive produced by David Stern ("Monk," "The
Simpsons") and produced by Devin Clark in New York City. The animation is
being handled by Augenblick Studios. Lou Wallach and Dan Powell are the
executives in charge of production for COMEDY CENTRAL.
"Evan and Gareth Are Trying To Get Laid" stars Evan Mann and Gareth
Reynolds, two regular guys who work at thehookup.com -- a male advice web
site. They are crash test dummies for the advice they pass along to their
readers. In the pilot, Evan questions his career choice after a string of
bad dates, but with no Evan, there is no Gareth! Gareth must do everything
he can to get Evan out of his funk, including dressing in drag, so his
friend can improve his pick-up techniques. "Evan and Gareth Are Trying to
Get Laid" is executive produced by Jim Biederman, Mann, Reynolds, Reveille
and Conductor and will be shot in New York. Lou Wallach and Monika
Zielinska are the executives in charge of production for COMEDY CENTRAL.
