EMPIRE STATE (ABC, New!) - Mark Gordon ("Grey's Anatomy") has landed a pilot order from the network for a new drama described as a modern-day Romeo and Juliet-esque romance set against the conflict between two Manhattan families - one of blue collar iron workers and the other of the wealthy real estate tycoons that run them. Michael Seitzman penned the pilot script, from a story by Seitzman and Jeffrey Reiner, and is executive producing alongside Gordon and Deborah Spera for ABC Studios.
LIMELIGHT (ABC) - McG's long-in-the-works drama has received a pilot commitment from the Alphabet. The project, which is loosely based on the life of hip-hop producer Pharrell Williams, is a soap set around the teachers and students at a performing arts college in New York City. David S. Rosenthal was originally tapped to pen the pilot script but was replaced by K.J. Steinberg. David Semel is already on board to helm the hour and executive produce alongside McG, Steinberg and Leonard Goldberg for Warner Bros. Television and Wonderland Sound and Vision. Peter Johnson will also serve as a co-executive producer with Williams as a consulting producer.
THE UNKNOWN (ABC, New!) - Jerry Bruckheimer is returning to the Alphabet, this time for a new drama about a team of dedicated amateur detectives working on cases involving unidentified victims. Mark Friedman created the hour and will executive produce alongside Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Danny Cannon for Warner Bros. Television. Cannon then is attached to direct. The news marks Bruckheimer's first potential series for the network since the short-lived docusoap "Profiles from the Front Line" in 2003.
