ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Feb. 17 -- Starz Entertainment has acquired four first-run titles from Summit Entertainment including the modern romantic tale Penelope starring Christina Ricci, comedy Sex Drive, action packed drama Never Back Down, and the 3D animated children's adventure Fly Me to the Moon, which will be shown on Starz channels and on-demand services in 3D. The deal also allows Starz Entertainment to offer the films on multiple distribution platforms, including its 16 linear channels, HD, Starz On Demand and Starz Play, the broadband video download service.
"Each of these films from Summit will appeal to different age groups and will definitely serve us well with crossover allure," says Nancy Silverstone, vice president, program acquisitions for Starz. "The variety of these four films will afford us the opportunity to program them on many of our 16 linear channels."
Penelope, starring Christina Ricci, James McAvoy, Catherine O'Hara, Peter Dinklage, Richard E. Grant and Reese Witherspoon is a modern romantic tale about a young aristocratic heiress (Ricci), born under a curse that can only be broken when she finds true love with the "one who will love her faithfully."
The comedy Sex Drive stars Josh Zuckerman, Amanda Crew, Clarke Duke, Seth Green and James Marsden. A high school senior (Zuckerman) drives cross-country with his best friends to hook up with a sexy girl he met online - hoping to lose his virginity.
In the action-packed drama Never Back Down, a rebellious high school student (Sean Faris) is lured into a fighting club, where he finds a mentor in a mixed martial arts veteran (Djimon Hounsou) whose mentorship helps him develop the skills he needs to fight with honor. The film also stars Amber Heard, Cam Gigandet and Leslie Hope.
Three young houseflies stow aboard the Apollo spacecraft in the 3D animated children's adventure film Fly Me To The Moon. The inspiring film features the voices of Kelly Ripa, Christopher Lloyd, Nicollette Sheridan, and Tim Curry and a live-action cameo by Apollo 11 Astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
