Host Carlos Santos to Deliver a Comedic Take on Culture and Entertainment with the Help of Celebrity Guest Appearances and Audience Engagement
NEW YORK, Feb. 19 -- MTV Tr3s and comedic host Carlos Santos have teamed up to premiere a new variety show, "Entertainment as a Second Language with Carlos Santos" (E.S.L.). "E.S.L." is all about access - giving fans a peek at celebrity video confessionals, exclusive interviews and live performances, laugh out loud comedic sketches, and a chance to vote for their favorite music videos. On February 26th at 9 PM ET/PT, MTV Tr3s will deliver this weekly bilingual and bi-cultural cutting-edge variety show. On hand to help get the party started is platinum selling reggaeton artist Don Omar, who will be performing his new single "Virtual Diva" from upcoming album I-Don, for the first time on television.
Introduced as the first on-air talent for MTV Tr3s, Carlos Santos was the host of the popular, "Mi TRL" and "Mi TRL Awards" until their end in late 2008. "E.S.L." will continue to give the Latin community programming that caters to their culture and interests. Fans can expect more cultural flavor, as Carlos and special guests engage home viewers and the studio audience.
"MTV Tr3s' goal has always been to provide viewers with content that speaks to them on their terms. Since our audience is so dynamic, it's crucial that we showcase this on 'E.S.L.,'" said Lily Neumeyer, Vice President of Production, MTV Tr3s. "We're excited to see 'E.S.L.' serve as a hub for young people - Latinos or not - to share their opinions, watch their favorite celebs, and interact with Carlos and other like-minded viewers on all things pop culture."
Born and raised in Puerto Rico along the backdrop of the rising sounds of reggaeton, Carlos is no stranger to the MTV Tr3s audience. Hosting specials such as "Mi TRL Awards," "Top 20" and "Alma Awards Red Carpet," he has been featured on seventeen.com's 17-buzz and can be seen in Latina Magazine's "What Guys Wish You Knew," hitting stands in March.
"E.S.L." will feature a 'Top 5' video countdown chosen by fans through online voting. Fans may vote by visiting esl.mtvtr3s.com, where they can also submit suggestions for music video additions to the voting list. Users can participate in 'Escenas De La Vida Real,' an original segment in which Carlos and team members act out situations 'novela' style, by submitting their personal scenarios via email for Carlos' consideration. Fans can recap the excitement online by watching performances and highlights from the show, as well as online-only video diaries given by Carlos on a weekly basis.
