Series Hosted By Tech Darling Morgan Webb of "X-Play"
LOS ANGELES, March 2, 2009 "G4 Underground," G4's new documentary series, goes inside compelling and controversial issues and reveals the raw reality behind some of today's most talked about pop culture trends. Subjects include real life superheroes, urban spelunkering, ninja schools and "brain 'roids." Hosted by Morgan Webb ("X-Play"), "G4 Underground" will premiere Sunday, March 29 at 9:00PM PT/ET
"'G4 Underground' brings in-depth news reporting to the 'digital generation,'" said Neal Tiles, President, G4. "The series digs deep into subjects that are often overlooked or misrepresented in the mainstream media but are important to the tech-savvy, gaming-obsessed G4 viewer."
Each episode of "G4 Underground" covers two diverse topics and offers an engaging "slice of life" glimpse into these worlds. The stories are presented in the first person through extensive interviews and encourage the audience to come to their own conclusions based on the realities.
In the premiere episode, "G4 Underground" will first take a look at real-life superheroes who are not just role playing or going to sci-fi conventions. These people have regular day jobs but get dressed up at night in superhero costumes to go out and fight crime. While some consider themselves vigilantes and others simply enjoy annoying local authorities, they are all hitting the streets to foil evildoers. In the second segment, "G4 Underground" introduces Richard Garriot, a video game pioneer that made millions creating the very first massive multiplayer online game and lives in a castle he built to resemble the one in his video game. Garriot recently paid $30 million to travel to space and spend two months at the international space station. Viewers will find out, in Garriot's own words, what visiting space is like, how he changed from the experience and his future plans in life, as well as video games.
Additional subjects that "G4 Underground" will explore include:
"BRAIN 'ROIDS'" Ever wanted to be smartermaybe just for a day or a few hours? Have a big test at school or an important presentation at work? No worries try some brain steroids and give you the added edge. From Ritalin for gamers to Provigil for executives, take a trip down the vitamin and supplement aisle to find out if there is any truth to steroids for the brain or is it just a bunch of mumble jumble created to take your money.
NINJA SCHOOL Welcome to Denver, CO home of 'Warrior Quest' a modern day ninja school. Students learn everything they need to become a ninja, including hand-to-hand combat, weapons, 'invisibility' and pyro. Hear stories from students who are dedicated to the art and lifestyle of ninja.
URBAN SPELUNKERING An underground 'extreme' hobby that is highly secretive and mostly illegal, Urban Spelunkering is about going where you are not allowed to go and seeing what you are not supposed to see. More and more groups and individuals are taking to abandoned buildings, underground subway tunnels and anywhere else where 'no trespassing' signs are posted. Follow producers as they find out why, how and where these modern explorers are going and what they find.
"G4 Underground" will premiere on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 9:00PM.
