This Just In...Sarah Settles in for a Third Season! COMEDY CENTRAL(R) Renews 'The Sarah Silverman Program'
New Season To Consist Of 10 Episodes Beginning 1Q 2010
MTV Network's Logo Gets Second Window
NEW YORK, March 4 -- Sarah's twisted and wild adventures, that only Sarah could get herself into, continue as COMEDY CENTRAL orders a third season of the weekly series, "The Sarah Silverman Program," it was announced today by Lauren Corrao, president, original programming and development, COMEDY CENTRAL. The third season of "The Sarah Silverman Program" will premiere 10 episodes in the first quarter of 2010. MTV Network sister channel, Logo, will get a second window to the series after it premieres on COMEDY CENTRAL.
"We love Sarah and we love this show -- we're thrilled it's returning for a third season," said Corrao. "'The Sarah Silverman Program' is truly a brand-builder for our network and by using the synergy within the MTV Networks, the second window deal with Logo allows us to broaden the show to an audience that will only expand the popularity of this hit series. We are excited to see what trouble Sarah and her friends get into in the next season."
"Yay!," added Silverman.
"Sarah Silverman has created an incredibly inventive and comedically revolutionary show that is beloved by the gay and lesbian audience. Expanding the third season run to Logo is a natural extension that we're thrilled is happening." said Brian Graden, president, MTV Networks Music Group Entertainment and president, Logo.
"The Sarah Silverman Program" wrapped its second season on December 11, 2008 and averaged 1.5 million total viewers. "Silverman" is appointment viewing for young men, averaging a 2.6 M18-24 rating and winning its Thursday timeslot (10:30-11:00 p.m.) across all of television, cable and broadcast, among M18-24 and M18-34.
The GLAAD Awards and WGA-nominated series, "The Sarah Silverman Program" stars Silverman portraying a character (aptly named Sarah Silverman) whose absurd daily life is told through narrative and an occasional song. In each episode, Sarah falls into unique, unsettling and always hilarious predicaments, with her sister Laura (played by real-life sister Laura Silverman), her nerdy gay neighbors, Brian and Steve (Brian Posehn and Steve Agee) and dim-witted Officer Jay (Jay Johnston) never far from her side.
The series is based on an idea by Silverman, Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab (Golden Globe-nominated "Monster House"). Silverman, Schrab, Heidi Herzon ("Jesus is Magic") and Dan Sterling ("The Daily Show with Jon Stewart") are the executive producers. Schrab and Sterling also serve as director on some of the episodes. Gary Mann is the executive in charge of production for COMEDY CENTRAL.
