- Labor Day Marathon of 'Dirty Jobs' Pays Tribute to Dirty Work -
(Silver Spring, Md.) - The world's most sought after guinea pig for all things dirty, grimy and messy returns to Discovery Channel in October for 11 all-new episodes of the Emmy-nominated series, DIRTY JOBS. In the continuation of season five, host and creator Mike Rowe travels the country to showcase the downright dirty jobs that most people would go out of their way to avoid. From toilet crushers to maple syrup processers to camel ranchers, Mike serves as apprentice to some of the most hard-working and skilled men and women around. While he'll need to call on more than his share of patience, humor -- and a stomach of steel -- to Mike it's worth it; these true American heroes make civilized life possible for the rest of us each and every day.
Since the series first debuted in 2005, DIRTY JOBS has provided an in-depth, behind the scenes look at more than 200 dirty jobs (and counting!), in industries ranging from construction to sanitation to manufacturing. In upcoming episodes, Mike will try his hand at hydro-dam mechanics, cedar log peeling, mattress recycling and fireworks making, among various others, adding even more diversity to his extensive resume. The men and women who do the dirty jobs featured on the show have been the impetus for a new initiative, MikeRoweWorks.com, which celebrates the importance of skilled labor and trade work in America.
In addition to DIRTY JOBS, Mike is working on various other Discovery Channel projects. A new series in development will go to locations around the world profiling courageous men and women and the impact their work has had on their community and the world.
As host of the series, which is slated to air in 2010, Mike will showcase the problems, the heroes, the innovative solutions, the science and the ultimate results that make these people unique. Discovery Channel is also actively developing other projects with Mike that he will host and executive produce.
For a refresher course in all your favorite episodes of DIRTY JOBS, a Labor Day marathon will air from 9AM - 3AM on September 7.
