By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

CAPRICA (Syfy) - Kevin Murphy has been upped to executive producer on the much-ballyhooed "Battlestar Galactica." He'll take over the show's day-to-day operations from fellow executive producer Jane Espenson as she focuses on the writers' room. Ron Moore and David Eick also serve as executive producers on the series, which launches on January 22.

PARKS & RECREATION (NBC) - Justin Theroux has been tapped for a multi-episode arc on the sophomore comedy. He'll play a friend of Ann's (Rashida Jones) and a potential love interest for Leslie (Amy Poehler), Entertainment Weekly reports. His first episode is set to air early next year.

ROMANTICALLY CHALLENGED (ABC) - The Alphabet has rolled back its commitment to the midseason comedy from 13 to seven episodes. Said cut comes as the network weighs its options going into next year. Meanwhile, co-star Alyssa Milano has been tapped for a guest stint on the network's sophomore drama "Castle." She'll play one of the title character's former lovers. It's not clear when said installment will air.

TYLER PERRY'S MEET THE BROWNS (TBS) - Debmar-Mercury has cleared the show's off-cable run on stations covering more than 70% of the country. Said clearances, all for cash plus two minutes of ad time per half-hour for national ad sales, will begin in September of next year. Among those participating: Fox-owned stations in New York, Dallas, Houston and Washington, D.C.

UNTITLED LARRY CHARLES PROJECT (NBC, New!) - The Peacock has ordered a pilot presentation from improv guru Larry Charles ("Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Borat") for a new comedy about a group of sci-fi fanboys in a small town who shoot their own version of a canceled TV show. Warner Bros. Television and Wonderland Sound and Vision are behind said half-hour, with Charles, McG and Peter Johnson executive producing. Separately, Charles is teaming with Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton for a rewrite of their failed comedy pilot "Boldly Going Nowhere" as well as an untitled comedy starring "Curb's" J.B Smoove set at a moving company for Sony Pictures Television.
