AMERICAN IDOL (FOX) - The network is reportedly close to ordering three more seasons of its flagship reality franchise, taking it through 2014. The news comes as the future of its most popular judge, Simon Cowell, remains in doubt. Speculation and rumor have long suggested that Cowell could transition to an American incarnation of his hit U.K. series "The X Factor" following his duties on "Idol's" upcoming ninth season, his final contracted year. Said scenario gained even more traction after Cowell's brother Tony announced on his podcast last week that Simon will leave "Idol" at the end of 2010. The leading theory: FOX, Sony and Cowell will bundle another year on Cowell's "Idol" contract in exchange for a sizeable commitment to "Factor" in 2011.
THE TYRA BANKS SHOW (The CW) - Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution and Telepictures Productions have confirmed the veteran talk show will wrap its run at the conclusion of its current season. "I'm so proud of the talk show's accomplishments over the past five years and of our two Emmys," Tyra Banks said in a statement. It's believed said decision is a result of both Banks's desire to produce films through her Bankable banner and the overall economic challenges facing the syndication marketplace. "Tyra" however won't disappear completely: the distributor will offer "The Best of 'The Tyra Banks Show'" to its participating stations in the 3:00 PM ET hour next season. Currently the series occupies both the 3:00 PM ET and 4:00 PM ET slots (repeat and original, respectively), the latter of which is being returned to the affiliates next year.
