DISCOVERY CHANNEL APPOINTS KEVIN BENNETT TO SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF PROGRAMMING
(Silver Spring, Md.) -- Discovery Channel today announced the appointment of Discovery Communications veteran Kevin Bennett to Senior Vice President of Programming, a key position on the flagship's senior leadership team. Beginning immediately, Bennett, who replaces Ken Schwab, will have direct responsibility for all aspects of Discovery Channel's programming, including the scheduling of all dayparts.
"Kevin's history with Discovery Communications and deep knowledge of our brands make him invaluable to both the company and to the network," said Clark Bunting, President and General Manager of Discovery Channel and President of Science Channel, to whom Bennett will report.
In Bennett's new role at Discovery Channel, he will be responsible for planning, directing, and executing the programming strategy for the flagship brand. Working closely with Bunting, Bennett will create a development and overall strategic plan and direction for the network. He will have oversight of all programming activities, including program planning, scheduling and programming budgets. In addition, he will work closely with new media to further integrate the content on both platforms. Bennett will also partner with the network's Development team to guarantee that all content aligns with corporate and division strategies.
A 14-year programming and development veteran with Discovery Communications, Bennett has been instrumental in the development of three networks - Discovery Health Channel, Discovery Times Channel and ID. Under Bennett's programming direction, Investigation Discovery has experienced 18 consecutive months of year-over-year primetime gains among households since its launch making it the fastest-growing cable network among the coveted demographic of women, 25-54.
