ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK
Emmy Award-winning actor and current TONY Award nominee Sean Hayes ("Will and Grace") will host THE 64TH ANNUAL TONY(R) AWARDS, the most anticipated evening in American theater, to be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York, Sunday, June 13 (8:00-11:00 PM, live ET; delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network. The awards honor theater professionals for distinguished achievement on Broadway.
Hayes has received critical acclaim for his roles in theatre, television and film, and quickly grabbed America's heart as the hilarious Jack McFarland on "Will & Grace," a role for which he received an Emmy Award (and six nominations), four Screen Actors Guild Awards, two TV Guide Awards, an American Comedy Award and seven Golden Globe nominations. Hayes's other notable television projects include guest roles on "Scrubs" and "30 Rock" as well as "Martin & Lewis," a television film on CBS that earned Hayes a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. Hayes' film credits include "The Bucket List," "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss," "Pieces of April," "The Cat in the Hat," "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton," "Igor," "Soul Men" and "Cats and Dogs." In 2003, Hayes and producing partner Todd Milliner formed Hazy Mills Productions. Their projects include "Situation: Comedy," "Eight Days a Week," "What News?" and "Hot in Cleveland," which premieres in June on TV Land.
Hayes can currently be seen on Broadway in "Promises, Promises" alongside Kristin Chenoweth. For his performance, Hayes has received a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, as well as nominations from the Drama League and the Outer Critics Circle.
"I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Tony Awards," said Hayes. "As the new guy on Broadway, it's an honor to be included in the established alumni."
"We will have some of the biggest stars from the worlds of theater, film and television helping us celebrate this amazing season on Broadway," said Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music and Live Events, CBS Entertainment. "Having Sean Hayes, who is a triple threat himself, as well as a TONY nominee this year, will make this a show you won't want to miss."
"We couldn't be more excited about Sean carrying on the tradition of excellent hosts for the Tony Awards," said Executive Producer and Director Glenn Weiss. "Sean's humor, charm and natural ability on the stage will make an already great show even better."
This year marks the 64th anniversary of the Tony Awards, which were first held on April 6, 1947, in the Waldorf Astoria's Grand Ballroom. It will be the 13th year that the historic Radio City Music Hall is home to the Tonys. The ceremonies are presented by Tony Award Productions, which is a joint venture of the League of American Theatres and Producers and the American Theatre Wing, which founded the Tonys in 1947.
The Tonys were founded in memorial to Antoinette ("Tony") Perry, the American Theatre Wing's World War II chairperson. The winners are selected by the governing board of Actors Equity, the Dramatists Guild, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, the United Scenic Artists, the Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers, the Casting Society of America, the American Theatre Wing and members of the Broadway League.
Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment will return as executive producers. Weiss will also serve as director for the 11th consecutive year.
