FORGET EVERYTHING YOU'VE EVER SEEN ON TELEVISION ABOUT ARCHAEOLOGY

HISTORY(TM) PREMIERES CHASING MUMMIES THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF DR. ZAHI HAWASS WEDNESDAY, JULY 14, 10PM ET/PT

A SERIES OF ARCHAEOLOGY AND ADVENTURES

New York, NY, July 13, 2010 - HISTORY's CHASING MUMMIES, a new series featuring Dr. Zahi Hawass, a living legend in the field of Egyptology, premieres tomorrow, on Wednesday, July 14, 10pm ET/PT.

Forget every archaeology show you've ever seen. Forget all the specials with mind-numbing dates and endless explanations. CHASING MUMMIES breaks new ground - literally! This series for the first time shows all the unexpected details, all the catastrophes, all the passion and all the anguish that results in a trove of new and astonishing ancient Egyptian finds. The unique series follows Hawass, a no-nonsense man of real emotion, dedication, genius and some say, madness, and his team of American fellows, as well as the series' Executive Producer Leslie Greif, who does his best to keep up with Dr. Zahi, a whirlwind adventurer.

The series is not only jam-packed with tons of information and amazing world-altering discoveries, but also brings viewers on surprising twists and turns and adventures - along the way showing all the steps encountered in great archaeology that have never been shown on television before. It's not what you expect, it is not always pretty, it's a world you can't turn away.

The series covers Hawass as he encounters daily obstacles. While retrieving Cleopatra's pylon from the depths of the Bay of Alexandria, a crane nearly topples and a storm almost derails the process. When one of the interns and a cameraman get trapped inside the Step Pyramid for over six hours, Hawass and Greif must rush to rescue them. The team gets stranded in the desert without any food and must eat a freshly slaughtered camel from desert nomads they happen upon. When one of the fellows faces a medical crisis, Dr. Zahi climbs down into King Seti's tomb - the longest tomb in Egypt at 400 feet. These and many other occurrences are all captured on camera and kept in the show so that viewers may see real archaeology in the process.

CHASING MUMMIES is produced for HISTORY by Leslie Greif's Boutique TV, with Leslie Greif and Adam Reed as executive producers. Mohamed Gohar is the Egyptian Executive Producer. Jason Sklaver is the co-executive producer. Executive Producer for Boutique TV is Adam Freeman. Executive Producers for HISTORY are Charles Nordlander, David McKillop, and Joseph LaPolla.
