LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
BREAKING BAD (AMC) - The cable channel has pushed the show's fourth season launch to July 2011. Said move is billed as a strategic one in order to move the series away from its broadcast competition. To fill the 13-month void, it's understood short interstitials, running three-to-four minutes, will be produced and run on AMCTV.com early next year. Production on the new season begins in January.
THE GOOD WIFE (CBS) - Dallas Roberts ("Rubicon") is set to recur on the show's upcoming second season. He'll play Owen, Alicia's (Julianna Margulies) never-before-seen gay brother, a University of Oregon mathematics teacher who passes through Chicago as a visiting professor. Said role was touted as part of the network's diversity commitment by CBS topper Nina Tassler during the network's executive session at the TCA Summer Press Tour.
THE KILLING (AMC) - The drama pilot, which ties together three distinct stories by a single murder, is reportedly approaching a series commitment at the cable channel. The show's ensemble cast includes Billy Campbell, Brent Sexton, Eric Ladin, Jamie Anne Allman, Joel Kinnaman, Kristin Lehman, Michelle Forbes and Mireille Enos. Patty Jenkins helmed the pilot off a script by Veena Sud. Fox Television Studios and Fuse Entertainment are the co-producers.
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (The CW) - Courtney Ford ("Dexter") is set to recur on the show's sophomore season. She'll play Vanessa, "a grad student at Duke who helps Damon, Alaric, and Elena go through Isobel's old research." "She's not without her own intrigue," Kevin Williamson told the publication. "It'll be a nice little part for someone. And it's a part that could evolve into this massive story line or we could gut her like a fish."
ZOMBIES VS. VAMPIRES (NBC, New!) - Austin Winsberg ("Jake in Progress") has booked a script commitment from the Peacock for a new series about two cops - one of which is secretly a vampire - assigned to a squad specifically formed to deal with "zombie crime." The project, which is set in a world where zombies are a part of society, controllable with medication, comes from the Warner Bros. Television-based Wonderland Sound and Vision with McG and Peter Johnson executive producing alongside Winsberg.
