OVATION DEBUTS TWO NEW ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS AT TELEVISION CRITICS TOUR
David Keeps, Host of Scenic Route series and Joey Lawrence, Celebrity Photographer and Star of Faces of a Vanishing World Join Ovation SVP of Programming Kris Slava at Ovation's TCA Presentation
BEVERLY HILLS - August 6, 2010 Ovation, the only multi-platform network devoted to art and contemporary culture, made its debut at the Television Critics Association tour (TCA) today presenting two new original productions: Scenic Route with host David Keeps, and the captivating new documentary film Faces of a Vanishing World, featuring celebrity photographer Joey Lawrence.
"We are very excited to be presenting our network and these shows at TCA for the first time. We are unique on the tour as Ovation is the only television channel focused on the art and contemporary culture category," said Kris Slava, SVP of Programming, Ovation. "We've reached the 42 million mark in our distribution, are growing rapidly, and completed production on two very engaging new originals so we felt the timing was right. Our programming mandate is to make sure everything on our air is smart, surprising and fun. These two original shows are certainly excellent examples."
Slava, who introduced the network's original productions, was joined by David Keeps, host of Scenic Route. Keeps is a journalist who has written pop culture, travel, and style features for Esquire, The Village Voice, Travel + Leisure, The New York Times, GQ, Rolling Stone, Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, In Style, Playboy, People, Good Housekeeping and Outside. Most recently, he was the lead reporter for the Home section of the Los Angeles Times. He made his television debut on Art & the City, another Ovation original, in 2007. In his new series Scenic Route, Keeps adds his own personal flare to the art of the road trip; showing viewers that some of America's best cultural treasures lie just off the beaten track. Scenic Route premieres on Ovation Monday, August 16 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Joining Slava and Keeps was the star of Ovation's extraordinary documentary film Faces of a Vanishing World -- Joey Lawrence. At just 19 years of age, Lawrence is one of the most sought-after photographers in music and entertainment. His images grace the many "Twilight" saga movie posters and print ads seen everywhere today, and he is the photographer of choice to such high-profile artists as the Jonas Brothers and 50 Cent. In Faces of a Vanishing World, Lawrence leaves his fast-moving NYC-based career behind to pursue his other passion -- capturing images of ancient tribes that are on the verge of extinction. Traveling to some of the most remote locations on earth, he photographs holy men, tribal warriors, and women and children from tribes that seem untouched by time and progress, but are in fact in constant danger of disappearing forever. Faces of a Vanishing World premieres on Ovation Monday, September 27 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
