New York, NY (September 23, 2010) - Terror returns to MTV's fall lineup, with the premiere of the original movie "My Super Psycho Sweet 16 Part 2" on October 22nd at 10p.m. ET/PT. A sequel to last year's thriller "My Super Psycho Sweet 16," the new two-hour scripted feature marks the network's first horror movie franchise. Additionally, MTV will live stream the first 20 minutes of the film via facebook.com/msps16 on October 13th at 7pm EST.
"We were thrilled with the positive response the first movie received and are excited to present this sequel as part of our first original TV movie franchise," said Chris Linn, Executive Vice President of MTV Production. "The horror genre resonates with today's youth culture -- and this film is an excellent example of our commitment to delivering scripted programming tailored specifically for the MTV audience."
Following the success of "Made: The Movie," MTV continues its strategy of adapting its signature reality franchises into distinctive scripted movie events. Last Halloween, the first installment of the "Super Psycho" series kicked off the current slate of MTV Original Movies and delivered impressive ratings. That film used the backdrop of an over-the-top sweet 16 party to create an original horror mythology featuring Skye Rotter (Lauren McKnight) - the daughter of infamous serial killer Charlie Rotter (Alex Van) who struggles to create a normal life in spite of the dark legacy of her father's crimes.
"My Super Psycho Sweet 16 Part 2" continues Skye's story as she travels in search of her mother Carolyn (Myndy Crist) in hopes of a fresh start. But when she meets her half-sister Alex (Kirsten Prout) she has to contend with a new bunch of rich kids and learns that her past - and her father - cannot be outrun. McKnight and Van return as Skye and Charlie. Chris Zylka also returns as Brigg, Skye's unlikely love interest as does Matt Angel, who returns as Derek, Skye's loyal best friend.
Also returning is director Jacob Gentry whose music video for "The Ghost Inside" by Broken Bells featuring "Mad Men" star Christina Hendricks, was nominated for 2010 VMA in the Best New Artist category. This movie represents MTV's continuing commitment to both original movies as well as the horror genre-- as a way to work with innovative new filmmakers like Gentry, whose previous work includes the Spirit Award nominated "The Signal". Gentry will present a sneak peek of the film at New York Comic Con on October 9th as part of a panel focusing on MTV's push into the horror genre.
"My Super Psycho Sweet 16 Part 2" is written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, Maggie Malina and Alexander Motlagh serve as Executive Producers and Chris Linn is Executive Producer for MTV. Chris White serves as Co-Producer.
