SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAYS: SUNDANCE CHANNEL TO PREMIERE ACCLAIMED NEO-NOIR CRIME EPIC, RED RIDING TRILOGY, ACROSS THREE CONSECUTIVE SUNDAYS, STARTING NOVEMBER 28 AT 10:00PM ET/PT

Thrillers Integrates Real-Life "Yorkshire Ripper" Serial Killings Into Saga Of Murder, Corruption And Conspiracy In Northern England

Julian Jarrold's Red Riding: 1974 Kicks Off Trilogy, Followed By James Marsh's Red Riding: 1980 And Anand Tucker's Red Riding: 1983

New York, October 13, 2010 - Sundance Channel will premiere the critically acclaimed British neo-noir crime epic Red Riding Trilogy across three consecutive Sunday nights at 10:00pm et/pt, beginning on November 28th with Red Riding: 1974, directed by Julian Jarrold (Brideshead Revisited). Directed by Academy Award(R) winner James Marsh (Man on Wire), Red Riding: 1980 premieres on December 5th; and Red Riding: 1983, directed by Anand Tucker (Shopgirl) concludes the series on December 12th. All three films were adapted by screenwriter Tony Grisoni (In This World) from the cult noir novels by David Peace.

The Red Riding Trilogy follows several characters in intertwining storylines linked by the gruesome real-life crimes of the "Yorkshire Ripper," a serial killer who terrorized northwest England from 1975-1980. The films' Yorkshire is a place of foreboding grey skies, resigned cynicism and ruthless tactics, where the unofficial police motto is, "This is the North, where we do what we want." In Red Riding: 1974, a cocky, libidinous young crime reporter (Andrew Garfield, The Social Network) discovers a cesspool of corruption and depravity as he tenaciously pursues a potential connection between a child murder and two earlier, unsolved cases of missing girls. Red Riding: 1980 follows a conscientious Manchester police constable (Paddy Considine, In America) who is dispatched to Yorkshire to get the embarrassingly fruitless pursuit of the "Ripper" back on track. The depth and breadth of the official crime and corruption becomes clear in Red Riding: 1983, in which a new crime prompts a veteran detective (David Morrissey, The Deal) and a low-rent lawyer (Mark Addy, The Full Monty) to revisit the conviction of a mentally disabled man in the 1974 child murder case. The trilogy's stellar cast also includes Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings), Rebecca Hall (The Town), Peter Mullan (My Name Is Joe), Eddie Marsan (Happy-Go-Lucky), Maxine Peake ("Shameless"), and Cara Seymour ("An Education").

The Red Riding Trilogy was produced for British television and made its U.S. theatrical premiere as a complete, five-hour event in February 2010. Reviewing the trilogy for the New Yorker, critic David Denby wrote, "the dark power and the flowing organization of the material pull you into the narrative, which moves forward and backward in a single skein of visionary filmmaking. ...The hardiest viewers may want to brave the five-hour marathon in the theatres, but most people, I believe, would be happier seeing it one episode at a time, savoring its complex turns, its perversities and occasional beauties, over a number of sweetly troubled days."

The schedule for Red Riding Trilogy is as follows:

Sunday November 28 at 10:00pm

Red Riding: 1974 (U.S. Television Premiere) - Directed by Julian Jarrold. Newly returned to Yorkshire from London, the ambitious, cocky young crime reporter Eddie Dunford (Andrew Garfield) is assigned to cover the story of Claire Kemplay, a schoolgirl who disappeared on her way home. Intrigued to learn of similar cases that occurred over the past five years, Eddie begins pursuing possible connections. What begins as a callow attempt to make a splash becomes an obsession after Claire's body is discovered at a construction site and Eddie begins a fraught affair with Paula Garland (Rebecca Hall), whose daughter went missing in 1972.

Sunday, December 5 at 10:00pm

Red Riding: 1980 (U.S. Television Premiere) - Directed by James Marsh. The "Yorkshire Ripper" has tyrannized Yorkshire for six long years and with the local police failing to make any progress, the Home Office sends in Manchester officer Peter Hunter (Paddy Considine) to review the investigation. Having previously made enemies in the Yorkshire force while investigating a shooting incident in 1974, Hunter finds himself increasingly isolated when his version of events challenges their official line on the "Ripper."

Sunday, December 12 at 10:00pm

Red Riding: 1983 (U.S. Television Premiere) - Directed by Anand Tucker. Another young girl has disappeared and Detective Chief Superintendent Maurice Jobson (David Morrissey) recognizes some alarming similarities to the abduction of Claire Kemplay in 1974. But a mentally handicapped man, Michael Myshkin (Daniel Mays) was convicted of Claire's murder and now Maurice must come to terms with his role in Michael's imprisonment. Meanwhile, lonely local attorney John Piggott (Mark Addy) is persuaded to investigate this apparent miscarriage of justice, and finds himself slowly uncovering a host of crimes and cover-ups.
