By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

HAIL MARY (CBS) - Ilene Chaiken ("The L Word") has been tapped to supervise the drama pilot, "a buddy P.I. show set in Atlanta that focuses on a suburban single mom who teams up with a streetwise hustler to solve crimes." Jeff Wadlow is behind the Warner Bros. Television-based hour, which he's also expected to direct. Wadlow and Chaiken then will executive produce alongside Joel Silver of Silver Pictures.

HOUND DOGS (TBS) - Chris Butler ("The Good Wife") and Ryan Doom ("Raising Hope") are the latest additions to the pilot, a dramedy about a minor league team and its on and off the field foibles. Doom is on board as Frankie Foster, "a sex addicted, cocky pitcher who gets his shot at the majors," with Butler as Dewitt Jones, "a longtime player who's going through a slump and his marriage is falling apart." Darrell Hammond, Laura Bell Bundy, Lolita Davidovich, Megan Ferguson and Tom Verica also star in the Sony Pictures Television-based hour, from writer/director Ron Shelton.

A MANN'S WORLD (NBC) - Taylor Kinney ("The Vampire Diaries") is the first to be cast in the drama pilot, about "a straight Beverly Hills hairdresser in his 50s who is struggling to stay young and relevant in a place where looks are everything." He's set as France, "the current 'it' stylist at the spa, a smokin' hot guy who is constantly pursued by beautiful women and whose goal is to have his own salon one day." Michael Patrick King is behind the hour, which comes from Warner Bros. Television.

POE (ABC) - Alex Graves ("Terra Nova") has signed on to direct the drama pilot, a crime procedural following Edgar Allan Poe, "the world's very first detective, as he uses unconventional methods to investigate dark mysteries in 1840s Boston." He'll work from a script by Chris Hollier, who's executive producing alongside Dan Lin for Warner Bros. Television.

SMASH (NBC) - Debra Messing ("The Starter Wife") is finalizing a deal to play the female lead in the drama pilot, about the mounting of a Broadway musical. She'll play Julia, the production's lyricist who's pretty, good natured and has a shred too much common sense. Theresa Rebeck is behind the Universal Media Studios-based hour, to be directed by Michael Mayer. DreamWorks Television and Storyline Entertainment are also co-producing.

UNTITLED PARHAM/ST. CLAIR PROJECT (NBC) - Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair's single-camera comedy has been given a pilot presentation order from the network. Said effort revolves around a woman (Parham) and her new live-in boyfriend who "find themselves taking in her distraught (and pushy) best girlfriend (St. Clair) who ends up on their doorstep after a divorce." The duo co-wrote the project, which comes from Universal Media Studios and American Work's Scot Armstrong and Ravi Nandan.
