LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The CW wants to open its tent to include comedies and procedurals, The CW President Mark Pedowitz told reporters during the netlet's executive session at the TCA Summer Press Tour. "It is our goal to have [procedurals], we need those shows. It'll help our repeats."
As for half-hours, Pedowitz says "we are opening ourselves up to look at comedies [again] this year," adding that ABC's "Apartment 23," CBS's "2 Broke Girls" and FOX's "New Girl" are the types of shows he thinks would be a good fit. He would later note that he's open to any genre - superheroes, remakes, etc. - if the right project in said genre came around.
On other fronts:
-- Pedowitz confirmed we'll see 24 episodes of "Gossip Girl" and "90210" this season and 23 of "Nikita" and "Supernatural." As for "The Vampire Diaries," which will stay at 22 episodes, Pedowitz said "we could not achieve [more] on a production basis." Adding, "we would have loved to have more. But I'd rather have a great 22 than 24 [that aren't]."
-- "It is not intended to be a last season," Pedowitz says about "Supernatural." "We'll see where the ratings go. I personally hope, I think we all at The CW hope the show keeps on going. So at the moment we're going to look at one season at a time."
-- Pedowitz says "Re-Modeled" will likely spell "America's Next Top Model" on Wednesday nights come midseason while the home for "The Frame" remains to be determined. "Our goal is to run it twice a week," he says about the latter, which has an eight-week, 16-episode commitment.
-- "We hope that Blake [Lively] and the whole cast stay together as long as possible," Pedowitz says with regards to the future of "Gossip Girl." "When we have to cross that bridge we will."
-- "At this point it's the final 13 [episodes]," Pedowitz said when asked if "One Tree Hill" could be extended as well. "Again, you never want to say never to something because you never know what's going to happen." He added that James Lafferty will definitely be back for multiple episodes but he didn't know exactly how many.
-- And finally, looking back on his ABC Studios days, Pedowitz cited "October Road" as an example of the kind of show he developed that could have worked better on The CW.
