LOS ANGELES (September 20, 2011) - From breaking news to breakthrough shows, TV Guide Network looks back at the most influential television moments that have changed its landscape forever. The series breaks down 100 monumental moments ranging from historical events and spectacular sports milestones to ground-breaking television series and inspirational stories that brought the world together. The five-part series, "100 Moments That Changed TV," airs on consecutive Sundays with parts one and two premiering Sunday, October 2 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on TV Guide Network.
Veteran news reporters Tom Brokaw, Larry King, Robin Roberts, Bryant Gumbel and Cynthia McFadden, as well as television journalists and pop culture experts, weigh in on how these moments dictated changes in the powerful medium.
Brokaw discusses how events like the televised debate between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, the OJ Simpson trial and the birth of CNN and "Today Show" impacted the content seen on TV, while King explains how his "call-in" talk show paved the way for the viewer participation format. Sportscaster Frank Gifford addresses the launch of "Monday Night Football" and ESPN and how technology has changed the way in which football games are broadcast.
