SUPER CITY (ABC, New!) - Madeleine Sami is looking to import her New Zealand comedy of the same name at the Alphabet, which has given the project a pilot presentation order. Said half-hour, from the ABC Studios' new low-cost division, follows five different characters (all played by Sami) whose lives intersect - "an aging cheerleader, an immigrant taxi driver, a closeted lesbian gym instructor, a woman fostering impoverished artists, and a homeless girl who finds and adopts a baby." Taika Waititi (MTV's "The Inbetweeners") is on board to direct from a script by Sami with Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan and Fumes' Carthew Neal also serving as executive producers. Production is expected to begin later this year. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Josh Safran is finalizing a deal to join NBC's "Smash" as an executive producer next season, ending his five-year run on The CW's "Gossip Girl" (Deadline.com); "Nurse Jackie" co-creator Liz Brixius has inked a two-year overall deal with Universal Television, where she'll develop new projects for the studio (Deadline.com); E! is on track to order three additional seasons of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" as part of a new pact with the Kardashian clan which includes a first-look component on new projects (Deadline.com); and Ray Stevenson has been tapped for a recurring role on "Dexter" as "a high-ranking member of an Eastern European crime ring who arrives in Miami determined to learn who killed one of his associates" (TVLine.com).
