SANTA MONICA, Calif., Sept. 4, 2012 -- FEARnet's original irreverent horror-comedy series "Holliston" has started production in Los Angeles on a 10-episode order for season 2 plus a one-hour holiday special set to air at the end of this year. The entire cast, including music legends Dee Snider ("Celebrity Apprentice" and Twisted Sister) and Dave "Oderus Urungus" Brockie (GWAR), will be returning for the second season in the show created, written and directed by series star Adam Green ("Frozen," the "Hatchet" franchise). This season's highlights will feature an animated episode, as well as a hilarious take on the "found footage" fad, and is chock full of over the top special effects.
The talented cast features Green, Joe Lynch ("Knights of Badassdom," "Wrong Turn 2: Dead End"), Laura Ortiz ("The Hills Have Eyes"), and Corri English ("Unrest"). Special celebrity guest stars in season 2 include Kane Hodder ("FRIDAY THE 13TH VI-X," the "Hatchet" films), Bill Moseley ("The Devil's Rejects," "Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2"), Sid Haig ("Spider Baby," "House of 1,000 Corpses") and Danielle Harris ("Halloween 4 & 5"), among others.
Set in the small town of Holliston, MA, this offbeat series follows the lives of two friends (Adam Green and Joe Lynch), chasing the dream of becoming prominent horror movie filmmakers. In their pursuit, they struggle with financial woes and the opposite sex, while working at a local cable access channel where they host a late night movie show, "The Movie Crypt." Snider plays the role of Lance Rockett, the Hair Metal-obsessed owner of the small cable company with dreams of Rock superstardom, and Brockie as Oderus Urungus, Adam's twisted, closet-dwelling version of Jiminy Cricket who is always there to offer misguided advice and a well-timed insult.
"'Holliston' is the cornerstone for FEARnet - not only does it compliment the movies we serve our viewers, but it showcases the culture and lifestyle of horror fans with its spot-on humor and comedic tone and style," said Peter Block, president and general manager of FEARnet. "'Holliston' fits in perfectly with our curated content, both on the linear TV channel and VOD schedule, as it melds horror fans with horror films and produces horrifyingly funny results."
"'Holliston' is my own unique take on the traditional multi-camera sitcom, drawing upon experiences from my life and examining that time when you're fresh out of college, everything is about the struggle, and nothing ever works out like they said it would," said series creator and show runner Green. "We were overjoyed by how quickly fans of both comedy and genre films embraced the show, and are thrilled with the strong attachments that fans have quickly developed for these characters and for this cast."
"From a marketing and distribution perspective, 'Holliston' is attractive to advertisers and carriers who desire to reach the loyal, rabid 91 million* strong fan base of genre programming. This series' light-hearted take and approach to horror is one that can be enjoyed by fans of all ages and as such, makes it a perfect vehicle for family viewing," said Faye Walker, FEARnet's vice president of marketing.
"Holliston" is produced by Adam Green's TV and film production company, ArieScope Pictures in association with Hacienda Films and A Bigger Boat Productions. Joining Green and Lynch as executive producers are Cory Neal and Andrew Mysko, as well as producers Sarah Elbert, Will Barratt and Sean Becker who will also be directing many of the episodes this season.
Season 2 will begin airing on FEARnet next spring, and "Holliston" season 1 will be available for purchase on DVD and BLU Ray on October 9 through Image Entertainment.
