AMERICA'S SON (FOX, New!) - Paul Redford ("The Newsroom") has sold a new drama to the network billed as a contemporary spin on William Shakespeare's "Hamlet." The Washington, D.C.-set hour revolves around "a renegade JFK Jr. type returns home to D.C. to discover his father's - a beloved presidential hopeful - death was no accident and he makes it his mission to untangle a complicated web of family secrets, expose the truth and ultimately avenge the murder." Amblin Television and Sony Pictures Television are co-producing the hour, which has a penalty attached, with Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey also among the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
NO WORRIES (FOX, New!)/UNTITLED DANIEL CHUN PROJECT (ABC, New!) - Former "The Office" co-executive producer Daniel Chun has sold a pair of single-camera projects as part of his overall deal with ABC Studios. First up is "No Worries," about "a serious man eager to settle down who realizes that his brother and everyone else his age is pushing off adulthood as long as possible." Then there's an untitled half-hour for ABC about "an immigrant mother and her two grown-up, Americanized children who must learn to work together when they open a restaurant with the last of their money." The former project has a penalty attached. Currently Chun serves as a consulting producer on the studio-based "Happy Endings." (Deadline.com)
PARTY GIRLS (ABC, New!) - Feature writer Michael Diliberti ("30 Minutes or Less") and "Crazy, Stupid, Love." directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are set to team for a new comedy to the Alphabet about "a party planner, Maddy Duke, who enjoys the events she plans a bit too much [and] is forced to reign in her wild ways as her more conservative CFO Anne tries to keep Maddy and the rest of her misfit employees on the straight and narrow." ABC Studios is behind the presumably single-camera project, which has a script commitment, with Charlie Gogolak, Shine America's Carolyn G. Bernstein and Electric Dynamite's Jack Black also among the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
THE STRAIN (FX, New!) - The cable channel has ordered a pilot and several additional scripts for a potential drama based on Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's horror trilogy, about a vampiric virus that has infected New York and the battle of mammoth proportions that follows. Said duo are set to co-write and executive produce the pilot alongside showrunner Carlton Cuse ("Lost") with del Toro also attached to direct. Production however isn't slated to begin until September of next year, following the release of del Toro's much-ballyhooed feature "Pacific Rim." (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED STEPHEN BELBER PROJECT (FX, New!) - Writer/director Stephen Belber ("Management") has sold a potential drama to the cable channel billed as "a New York-based thriller chronicling a murder and cover up." No other details were given about the project. (Deadline.com)
WAKE UP CALL (CBS, New!) - Larry Dorf and Ben Falcone are back in business with the Eye for a new comedy about "a group of friends whose lives are changed when "'til death do us part" comes a whole lot sooner than expected."
