Re-launches with 2.0 Version Pegged to Premiere
CHEVY CHASE, MD (September 25, 2012) - In the second season of "The Layover with Anthony Bourdain," contemporary cultural anthropologist and best-selling author, Tony Bourdain, shares his 20 years of world travel expertise with viewers, providing tips and tricks on how to maximize the enjoyment of layover experiences in iconic U.S., Asian, South American and European cities. Premiering on Monday, November 19 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, this hour-long series is Bourdain on high octane, caffeinated, and traveling with a sense of urgency. Why? Because he has a limited amount of time to unleash an unpredictable story about a place, a people, and their food.
To celebrate the second season of "The Layover with Anthony Bourdain," Travel Channel will release a new 2.0 version of The Travel Channel Layover Guide with Anthony Bourdain for both iPhone and iPad. The Travel Channel Layover Guide with Anthony Bourdain is available on the App Store SM for $1.99. Users who previously purchased the app will be eligible to upgrade at no charge to the new 2.0 version. The app debuted as the #1 Travel app on iTunes in March 2012.
"Travel Channel viewers want a unique perspective on a destination and Bourdain's insights and point of view are priceless. Viewers now have the rare opportunity to not only watch the series, but simultaneously access these experiences through the interactive features available only on our app. It enables them to have their own caffeine-charged layover experience," says Andy Singer, General Manager, Travel Channel.
Backed by a visually arresting graphic style that conveys utility, grit, and energy, Bourdain proves that layovers are opportunities for travelers to mingle with locals, crash parties, dine on local cuisine, and explore cultures. "The Layover with Anthony Bourdain" gives viewers a rare opportunity to see Tony under a new kind of pressure.
In the premiere episode, Bourdain takes on Chicago, the city he deems to be "the only other true American Metropolis." This layover is all about cruising around the diverse neighborhoods that make up this great city in a rented old-school Cadillac. For a bit of off-beat culture, Tony checks out the International Museum of Surgical Science. He drinks in dive bars galore, samples hot dogs, Polish sausages and Italian beef sandwiches (he prefers them hot, sweet and wet), and conducts an informal poll on whether native Chicagoans really eat deep-dish pizza.
"The Layover with Anthony Bourdain" shows you how to cut right to the good stuff. This season, Tony is visiting Atlanta, Dublin, New Orleans, Paris, Philadelphia, Sao Paolo, Seattle, Taipei and Toronto, doing the things he knows and loves best. And he gives viewers his list. From dive bars to 5 stars, this is what Tony would do in one action-packed adventure.
The updated app will launch the Chicago points of interest concurrently with the season premiere on November 19, 2012, and will include the following new and/or enhanced features.
· All 10 "season two" cities will be added to the app, comprising dozens of exciting new points of interests: hotels, restaurants, bars, shopping, must-dos.
· Each new city will appear concurrently in the app as that episode airs.
· Users will be able to edit recommended times at any point-of-interest - restaurants, bars, stores, museums, etc. - presented in the app. Their personalized layover timelines will adjust accordingly.
· App users will be able to opt in to receive content update advisories as well as tune-in reminders to view upcoming TV episodes.
· In-app navigation will be reworked to facilitate browsing within this expanded content set. "In-app" web browsing will make it easier for users to navigate from app content to any point of interest web site, and back.
