NEW YORK - November 8, 2012 - NBC Sports Network has added the Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic, two additional Atlantic 10 games and three new Colonial Athletic Association matchups to its 2012-13 telecast schedule, bringing its total to more than 60 college basketball games this season.
The inaugural Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic will tipoff on Saturday, December 22 at 3 p.m. ET, from the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, VA. The first game of the Classic will feature the Patriots of George Mason vs. the Richmond Spiders. The late game at 5:30 p.m. ET will showcase the Virginia Cavaliers and Old Dominion Monarchs.
In addition to the six games featuring Atlantic 10 teams already on the 2012-13 college basketball schedule, NBC Sports Network has added two more. Charlotte will host Georgia Southern on Tuesday, November 13 at 9 p.m. ET, and St. Joes will host Harvard on Tuesday, November 20 at 8 p.m. ET.
Three CAA games have also been added to this year's schedule; Drexel will host Illinois State on Thursday, November 15 at 7 p.m. ET; William & Mary will host Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday, November 21 at 7 p.m. ET; and James Madison will host George Washington on Wednesday, November 28 at 7 p.m. ET.
The 2012-13 NBC Sports Network schedule features the most college basketball games in the network's history, including games from the Atlantic 10, Mountain West, Colonial Athletic Association and Ivy League conferences. The schedule also includes: two tip-off classics from Navy ships - the Carrier Classic and Navy and Marines Corps Classic; an eight-team pre-season tournament, the Battle 4 Atlantis; the four-team Governor's Holiday Hoops Classic; and the Semifinal and Final of the Colonial Athletic Association's conference tournament.
A talented collection of commentators has been assigned to call all of the college basketball action on NBC Sports Network this season.
Dave Strader will serve as the play-by-play voice for Atlantic 10 matchups this season. In addition to being one of the network's top play-by-play voices for its NHL coverage, Strader recently served as a play-by-play announcer for NBC Sports Network's coverage of men's basketball at the 2012 London Olympics. Strader will be joined on A-10 games by former Northern Illinois coach and current CSN Chicago sports analyst Dave Kaplan.
Todd Harris and Paul Burmeister will split play-by-play assignments for Mountain West coverage. Former BYU Quarterback and veteran Mountain West analyst Blaine Fowler will work all of the games. Coverage of the Mountain West on NBC Sports Network begins Saturday, January 12 at 8 p.m. ET, when San Diego State hosts Colorado State.
In addition to play-by-play on Mountain West games, Todd Harris will also contribute to NBC Sports Network's coverage of the Colonial Athletic Association. Harris will share duties with Veteran CAA play-by-play announcer Mike Corey, who has been the play-by-play voice for the University of Delaware since 1999. Emmy Award-winning broadcaster and former Georgetown point guard Ronnie Thompson will serve as analyst for the network's coverage of CAA basketball.
Randy Moss, one of NBC Sports Groups most versatile announcers, will manage play-by-play duties for all Ivy League games on the NBC Sports Network this season. Alongside Moss will be former Columbia Lions point guard Dalen Cuff. The network will present 10 Ivy League men's basketball games in 2012-13, beginning with Penn hosting Big 5 rival Villanova on Saturday, December 8 at 8 p.m. ET.
Carolyn Manno and Liam McHugh will split host assignments for NBC Sports Network's college basketball studio show this season. For coverage of the Carrier Classic and Navy Marine Corps Classic, McHugh will be joined by Stacey King, former center for the Oklahoma Sooners and three-time NBA Finals Champion with the Chicago Bulls. Throughout the season, former New Jersey Nets and UCONN forward Donny Marshall will participate in select studio coverage.
