BACKED BY NATIONAL MULTI-MEDIA MARKETING CAMPAIGN, SYFY'S HIT SERIES "TOTAL BLACKOUT" RETURNS TUESDAY, JANUARY 15 AT 10:30PM
MOVES INTO REGULAR 10PM TIME SLOT BEGINNING JANUARY 22
NEW YORK - January 9, 2013 - Syfy's hit series Total Blackout, hosted by Jaleel White (Family Matters, Dancing with the Stars), will resume its second season on Tuesday, January 15 at the special time of 10:30PM (ET/PT), following the 90-minute, season four premiere of Face Off at 9PM.
Beginning Tuesday, January 22, Total Blackout will return to its regular 10PM time slot.
In the premiere episode of the half-hour, extreme game show, titled "Broken Glass & Hot Coals," four teams must overcome their fears as they attempt to identify four skin-crawling items placed in tanks, using only their sense of touch. Those who survive must move on to the Walk of Terror, where items below their feet aren't always what they seem. To win the $5,000 prize, the final two remaining teams are then tasked with collecting mouse traps hidden among unknown objects set inside creepy coffins.
In the second episode, "Tub of Terror," four contestants confined in a straightjacket must identify items using only their tongues. After only three advance, the remaining players go on to guess the weight of various objects - including the most dangerous animal in Total Blackout history! Finally, the last two surviving contestants must then take a dip in a water-filled tub to figure out what is being dumped on them - and not scare the nightmarish objects away with their screaming.
For the January return of Total Blackout, Syfy will launch a nationwide multi-media marketing campaign featuring the first ever consumer live Total Blackout stunt. The event will be held at The Grove in Los Angeles from Friday, January 11 through Sunday, January 13, 10AM-6PM. Consumers will have the opportunity to perform similar challenges to the game show in an impressive blacked out cube. The appearance of "invisible walls" will seamlessly envelope the outside walls and stream the participant's experience, making it appear as if they can peer through the walls. In addition, those who enter the cube will have the chance to become a contestant on an upcoming episode of Total Blackout. Series host and television star Jaleel White will also be on hand throughout the weekend.
The campaign will also include innovative social and viral video initiatives. These range from YouTube showcasing an exclusive sneak peek of new episodes and top 10 moments from the series; Jaleel White in a custom featured segment of College Humor's popular Hardly Working series; dedicated BuzzFeed posts (the top phobias no one's ever heard of, the craziest things done on game shows, reasons why someone should be afraid of the dark and top freak outs); StumbleUpon and VEVO partnerships and exclusive TBO humor moments on Syfy.com.
The international hit series is produced by FremantleMedia North America (American Idol, The X Factor) and was created by Henrik Nielsen (Can You Duet?, Danish versions of The X Factor, Got Talent and Pop Idol). Nielsen and Scott St. John (Deal or No Deal, America's Got Talent, The Choice) are executive producers and Noah Bonnett (101 Ways to Leave a Game Show, BrainSurge) is co-executive producer.
