Beverly Hills, Calif., January 9, 2013 - In honor of Black History Month, STARZ IN BLACK and ENCORE will offer a collection of award winning and critically-acclaimed documentaries and miniseries, throughout the month of February. Beginning Sunday, February 3rd at 7pm et/pt, STARZ IN BLACK will showcase a double feature of documentary films focusing on the socio-political struggles and movements Black Americans experienced, including slave rebellions, the dismantling of the Jim Crow laws, the Civil Rights Movement, the rise of the Black Panther Party and more.
The documentary series will air each Sunday night in February at 7pm and include: Scandalize My Name: Stories from the Blacklist narrated by Morgan Freeman, the NAACP Image Award nominated film Dare Not Walk Alone, The Road to Brown, At the River I Stand, Revolution '67 and Nat Turner: A Troublesome Property. The series also includes the network premieres of February One: The Story of the Greensboro Four, premiering on February 3rd at 8pm and Banished, debuting on February 17th at 8pm.
Additionally, ENCORE will premiere a collection of award-winning miniseries as part of "The Big Miniseries Showcase" including "Sally Heming's: An American Scandal," starring Sam Neill, debuting on Sunday, February 3rd at 8pm et/pt, and the multi-award winning "North and South," starring Kirstie Alley, Patrick Swayze and James Read, premiering on Monday, February 4th at 8pm et/pt.
ENCORE's "The Big Miniseries Showcase" is a weekly programming destination featuring fan favorite and classic titles. The EMMY(R) Award winning and Golden Globe(R) Award nominated "North and South," tells the story of the turbulent events and emotions that ignited the Civil War, while focusing on the lives of two families who are geographically and ideologically placed on opposite sides of the war. The epic story, "Sally Heming's: An American Scandal," reveals the extraordinary, controversial 38-year relationship between Thomas Jefferson and his slave mistress, Sally Hemings.

Documents one volatile winter in Greensboro that not only challenged public laws in North Carolina but served as a blueprint for the wave of non-violent Civil Rights protests that swept across the nation throughout the 1960s. 7pm At the River I Stand (1993)
Documentary chronicles the 1968 Memphis, Tennessee sanitation workers strike and the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. Runtime: 56 minutes. Directors: David Appleby, Allison Graham and Steven Ross.
8pm Revolution '67 (2007)
A focus on the six-day riots in Newark, New Jersey in July 1967, which began as spontaneous revolts against poverty and police brutality, but ended as fateful milestones in America's struggles over race and economic justice. An illuminating docudrama on Nat Turner's slave rebellion and its impact on America's long and troubled history of slavery and racial conflict. Feb 24th 7pm Scandalize My Name: Stories From the Blacklist (1998)
Narrated by Morgan Freeman, this potent documentary, examines several prominent African-American performers who were seeking more and enhanced roles on radio, television, and stage. In the 1940s and 1950s, anti-Communism was one more tool to maintain Jim Crow and to oppress African-Americans. Topics include the Red Scare, McCarthyism, and blacklists with post-war activism. 8pm Dare Not Walk Alone (2006)
Nominated for the NAACP Image Award for "Most Outstanding Documentary," Dare Not Walk Alone is set to a soundtrack that flows from Gospel to Hip Hop music, and examines the heroic struggle for the courage of the Civil Rights supporters who put their lives on the line in the midst of the now historical racial clashes in St. Augustine, Florida, in order to force president to sign the Civil Rights Act of 1964.Runtime: 83 minutes.
