For nearly ten years, Buchanan has worked at The Style Network, most recently holding the post of Senior Vice President, Programming & Acquisitions. In 2010, based on a highly acclaimed Channel 4 UK special, Katie developed, produced and launched the powerful teen series, Too Fat for 15: Fighting Back. The series helped pave the way for an entirely different programming genre for the network highlighting the nation's teenage obesity crisis--which brought in local and national acclaim.
Prior to Style, as part of VH1's West Coast Original Movie & Series group, Buchanan helped develop four made-for-television movies including The Way She Moves, Play'd: A Hip Hop Story, Hysteria: The Def Leppard Story and They Shoot Divas, Don't They? directed by Jonathan Craven. A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Buchanan is a graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University where she received her BFA in Communications & French. She also received her Advanced Certificate in the French Language from La Sorbonne and The British Institute in Paris. Buchanan then went on to receive her MFA in Film and Directing from the California Institute of the Arts, and produced an award winning thesis film Get Out of Dodge.
