DISCOVERY CHANNEL AND ROBERT REDFORD PRESENT "ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN REVISITED"
-Two Hour Film Reuniting Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein, Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford Airs Sunday April 21 at 8PM ET/PT-
(Silver Spring, MD) Discovery Channel and award-winning actor/director Robert Redford present a landmark television event looking back at Watergate - the original game changer of American politics. Mr. Redford, who served as producer of the iconic 1976 film All the President's Men, brought the story of Watergate to the screen with authenticity, power and precise detail while doing justice to a seminal chapter in American history. More than 40 years after a bungled burglary brought a beleaguered presidency down and the term "Watergate" into the national lexicon, Mr. Redford returns to the scandal that broke all the rules of press and politics, brought down a President and forever changed the country in ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN REVISITED which premieres on Sunday, April 21 at 8PM ET/PT.
In June 1972, a break-in occurred at the Democratic National Committee's Watergate offices, which was traced back to President Richard Nixon's Committee for the Re-Election of the President. The event resulted in President Nixon's resignation, the only Presidential resignation in American history. Mr. Woodward and Carl Bernstein, colleagues at The Washington Post, uncovered the story after doggedly investigating the scandal and exposing a long, twisted trail of cover-ups and lies. 2013 marks 40 years since 1973 - Watergate's most pivotal year, and the year Mr. Bernstein and Mr. Woodward earned a Pulitzer Prize for their reporting.
ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN REVISITED gains access to the top players, from those directly involved in Watergate to others from politics, journalism and the media. Mr. Redford, who famously portrayed The Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward in All the President's Men, Mr. Woodward, Mr. Bernstein, and actor Dustin Hoffman, who portrayed Mr. Bernstein onscreen, reflect on the events that impacted journalism, the American presidency and the global political culture. How has Watergate changed the Presidency? What effect has the scandal had on our political leaders? How useful and productive were the collaborative efforts of the U.S. Congress? And has hope and optimism forever been replaced in our national dialogue by doubt and cynicism? Those questions and more will be explored in ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN REVISITED.
"Our priority at Discovery is the very best non-fiction," said Eileen O'Neill, Group President of Discovery and TLC Networks. "The events surrounding Watergate and Mr. Redford's film both helped shape today's worlds of politics and journalism, and I can't think of a better time to revisit these true stories and compelling characters."
"I wanted this to feel like it was the first time you're hearing this story even though it's one of America's most notorious political scandals," said Mr. Redford. "Juxtaposing the reality of those who perpetuated the crime and those who pursued them, alongside those who portrayed them in the film, unfolds this historical turn of events in an entirely new way."
ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN REVISITED also includes interviews with former executive editor of The Washington Post Ben Bradlee; The Daily Show host Jon Stewart; NBC News' Tom Brokaw; former Republican congressman and MSNBC host Joe Scarborough; former general counsel to President Nixon John Dean; journalist Sir David Frost; Minority Counsel to Senate Watergate committee and actor Fred Thompson; MSNBC host Rachel Maddow; Republican political consultant Mary Matalin; Editor in Chief of ProPublica Stephen Engelberg; former Treasurer of the Committee to Re-elect the President Hugh Sloan; The New York Times reporter David Carr; Nixon speechwriter and actor Ben Stein; former Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus; former deputy assistant to President Nixon Alexander Butterfield; Executive Editor of The New York Times Jill Abramson; Joan Felt, daughter of Mark Felt, aka "Deepthroat"; Democratic media advisor James Carville; Watergate prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks; and former congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman who earlier served as a member of the House Judiciary Committee that recommended three articles of impeachment against President Nixon.
