HORIZON (USA/UCP; W: Bridget Tyler; D: Yves Simoneau) - Yves Simoneau ("V") has been tapped to direct the drama pilot, about a secretary at the FBI during the height of World War II who begins a secretive investigation into files that have been stamped with the mysterious codename "horizon." He'll work from a script by Tyler, with Valhalla Entertainment's Gale Anne Hurd serving as an executive producer. Casting is currently underway for a production start this summer. (Deadline.com)
THE STRAIN (FX/FX Productions; W: Chuck Hogan & Guillermo del Toro; D: Guillermo del Toro) - Lauren Lee Smith ("The Listener") is the latest to board the drama pilot, a high concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. She'll play his ex-wife Kelly Goodweather. "After winning a bitter custody battle, she embarks on a new life with her boyfriend, but when she fails to heed her husband's warning about the contagion spreading in Manhattan, she pays the ultimate price." Jonathan Hyde, Kevin Durand, Mia Maestro, Miguel Gomez and Richard Sammel also star. (Deadline.com)
TYRANT (FX/Fox 21; W: Craig Wright; D: David Yates) - David Yates (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) has signed on to direct the drama pilot, about an unassuming American family drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. He'll succeed Ang Lee, who bowed out last month for personal reasons. Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff also serve as executive producers on the hour, which will film in Morocco. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED ANDREW GURLAND PROJECT (FX/FX Productions; W/D: Andrew Gurland) - Brett Gelman ("Go On") and Jenny Slate ("Parks and Recreation") have both landed roles on the comedy pilot, about Russ (Nat Faxon), a married man who is given permission by his wife Lina (Judy Greer) to get a mistress in order to save their marriage. Gelman will play his close friend A.J., "an intense, recently divorced guy"; with Slate as his best friend Jess, "a petite ex-party girl who is now married to a much older guy." (Deadline.com)
