THE ASSETS (ABC, New!) - Sandra V. Grimes and Jeanne Vertefeuille's book "Circle of Treason: CIA Traitor Aldrich Ames and the Men He Betrayed" is being developed as a limited series at the Alphabet. Said effort details their pursuit of Ames, "a mole who fed information to the Soviet Union that contributed to the deaths of at least ten Soviet intelligence officers who had spied for the United States." Morgan Hertzan, Rudy Bednar and Andrew Chapman are executive producing for ABC News' Lincoln Square Productions. (Deadline.com)
FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC (Lifetime, New!) - Heather Graham and Ellen Burstyn are set to star in a small screen adaptation of V.C. Andrews's best-selling book of the same name, about "four young siblings, two boys and two girls, who, after the tragic death of their father, are torn from an idyllic life and subjected to cruel emotional and physical abuse resulting from a dark, long-hidden family secret." Graham will play their mother, Corrine, with Burstyn as their grandmother, Olivia. Deborah Chow is directing from a script by Kayla Alpert with Merideth Finn, Michele Weiss and Charles W. Fries executive producing for Front Street Pictures and Cue the Dog Productions. Harvey Kahn is producing. (Deadline.com)
HORIZON (USA/UCP; W: Bridget Tyler; D: Yves Simoneau) - Ruth Bradley, Meg Steedle, Taylor Handley and Mark Famiglietti have booked the principal roles on the drama pilot, set at the height of World War II and revolving around a secretary at the FBI who begins a secretive investigation into files that have been stamped with the codename "horizon." Bradley has been tapped for said role, Lauren Howl; with Steedle as Ellen Olsen, "Lauren's best friend and a refined debutant turned upper-level FBI secretary." Handley then is set as George Howl, "Lauren's marine husband who mysteriously resurfaces after disappearing in a battle over the Pacific which the Navy has deemed classified"; with Famiglietti as Will "Sparks" Sparkman, "a by-the-book FBI agent whose crush on co-worker Lauren is obvious to everyone but her." SAINT GEORGE (FX) - Mexican actress Adriana Barraza is set to star opposite George Lopez in the multi-camera comedy, about the chaotic life of a recently divorced working class Mexican-American turned successful entrepreneur. She'll play his overbearing mother, who just moved in. Matt Williams, David McFadzean and Lopez himself co-created the half-hour, which ordered straight to series back in April. (Deadline.com)
WAYWARD PINES (FOX/FX Productions; W: Chad Hodge; D: M. Night Shyamalan) - Terrence Howard (Crash) is the latest addition to the upcoming drama, about Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), a Secret Service Agent who drives to the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, Idaho, to find two missing federal agents only to find himself stranded after a car accident. He'll play Wayward Pines Sheriff Pope alongside the previously cast Carla Gugino, Toby Jones and Melissa Leo. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Michelle Forbes will recur on "Chicago Fire" as "a high ranking consultant with the State Fire Marshal's office, who keeps a sharp eye on budgets and performance at the city's fire houses" (Deadline.com); Niels Arden Oplev has inked a one-year overall deal with CBS Television Studios where he'll direct a pilot for the studio during the coming development cycle (Deadline.com); Leslie Odom, Jr. is bound for "Person of Interest" as "an educated, even-tempered tech executive" (Deadline.com); Sean Maguire is set to appear in at least four episodes of "Once Upon a Time" as Robin Hood, where he'll succeed Tom Ellis who had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts (TVLine.com);
Rebecca Creskoff, Kenny Johnson and Michael Vartan have all snagged roles on the second season of "Bates Motel" (Deadline.com); Chaley Rose has been cast as Scarlett's (Clare Bowen) childhood friend who also has dreams of making it big as a singer on "Nashville" (@Nashville_ABC); David Anders will guest on "Criminal Minds" as "a serial slayer whose M.O. involves the lobotomization of his victims" (TVLine.com); Henry Winkler has been tapped to play Jean-Ralphio's (Ben Schwartz) father on "Parks & Recreation" (THR.com); and Lauren Stamile will drop by the season premiere of "The Mentalist" as the wife of a murder victim whose body is discovered two years after he was reported missing" (TVLine.com).
