LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- AMC has canceled "The Killing" once again.

The news, first reported by Deadline.com, marks the second time the cable channel has dropped the axe on the Mireille Enos/Joel Kinnaman-led hour.

"We have made the difficult decision not to move forward with a fourth season of 'The Killing," the network said in a statement to the publication. "We want to thank our great partners at Fox Television Studios, creator Veena Sud, an extraordinary cast and the dedicated fans who watched."

Originally canceled in July of 2012 (read the story), producer Fox Television Studios eventually worked out a deal with AMC for a third season this past January (read the story).

The show's 12-episode third season however averaged 1.525 million viewers and a 0.4 rating adults 18-49, down from its already modest season two numbers (1.579 million viewers and a 0.5 adults 18-49 rating). Both seasons in turn came up short of "The Killing's" freshman run (2.166 million viewers and a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating).
