TRAVEL CHANNEL TO PREMIERE NEW SEASON OF "BIZARRE FOODS AMERICA" WITH ANDREW ZIMMERN ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4 AT 9:00 P.M. ET/PT

From Jersey City to the Jersey Shore, Popular Series Kicks Off in the Garden State

CHEVY CHASE, MD (September 12, 2013) - Bada Bing, Bada Boom! Andrew Zimmern, the three-time James Beard Award-winning TV personality, chef, food writer and culinary explorer, travels the Garden State Parkway from Jersey City to the Jersey Shore in search of amazing and unusual cuisine in the season premiere of "Bizarre Foods America" with Andrew Zimmern on Monday, November 4 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. Throughout season five, Zimmern continues to discover the bizarre foods and cultures in the backyard of cities across North America. This season will feature delicacies like cicada pot pie from Richmond, Virginia; seal flipper pie from Toronto, Canada; and Pakistani goat brain from New York City.

"Every year Bizarre Foods keeps getting better and better, and this coming season of 'Bizarre Foods America' is without a doubt our best yet," said Zimmern. "Discovering new stories about places that we think we know everything about has become one of our signature strengths. Even with shows like the one filmed in NYC, we demonstrate just how much you can learn about the most written about city in the world."

In the season premiere of "Bizarre Foods America," Zimmern takes viewers on a journey through New Jersey to experience some of the Garden State's unfamiliar and exotic dishes. First stop is on the Jersey Shore at LaMonica Fine Foods, where he tries some authentic Italian-American food called scungilli - conch meat, steamed and cut into strips. With nearly a hundred thousand pounds of conch arriving daily, this facility still shucks by hand and prepares for canning. Continuing along the shore, Zimmern visits the New Jersey Aquaculture Innovation Center, where he mixes up a cocktail of oyster eggs and sperm to create a triploid - an entirely new type of oyster with an additional third chromosome.

Back in Jersey City, Zimmern explores Phil-Am - a Philippine grocery store located in Little Manila serving sisig - a dish of pig head that is boiled, broiled, chopped, fried and served on a sizzling platter, and balut - fertilized duck eggs. He also visits Legal Beans BBQ - a whole-hog rotisserie pit house devoted to the lechon BBQ style, as well as Thirty Acres, the first in a wave of new seasonal American restaurants serving Jersey fluke fish and grilled hearts from locally raised duck. Other highlights include a visit to a ramen factory in Teterboro for a noodle-making demonstration, as well as the Hungarian Festival in New Brunswick, featuring classic comfort food including parcal porkolt or stewed beef tripe - the stomach lining of the cow.

During the new season, Zimmern travels around North America visiting iconic locations including Cleveland, New York City, Pittsburgh, San Francisco Bay, Toronto and the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul. Along the way, he discovers the quirky subcultures and prevailing traditions passed down by immigrants in the United States and Canada.

"Bizarre Foods America" with Andrew Zimmern is produced by Tremendous! Entertainment, Inc. for Travel Channel. For Tremendous!, the executive producers are Colleen Needles Steward, Shannon Keenan Demers, Andrew Zimmern and David Barsky. For Travel Channel, the executive producer is David E. Gerber.
