AMY BRENNEMAN TO GUEST STAR AS MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS' MOTHER, ON "REIGN"

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 26, 2013 - Catherine de Medici has met her match! Amy Brenneman ("Judging Amy," "Private Practice") will make a guest appearance on REIGN as the mother of Mary, Queen of Scots in an episode to air in Spring 2014.

Brenneman will play Marie de Guise, Mary, Queen of Scots' mother and the acting regent of Scotland. Beautiful, brilliant and cunning, she returns to French Court after years apart from her daughter. She faces off with Catherine de Medici, the woman to whom she traded her child for Scotland's protection, and the two mothers will conspire against young hearts, fierce desires and dark warnings for the purpose of achieving their own ends.

"What do you do when all of the character traits required for such a dynamic character happen to exist in the actor who's right under your roof?" said Executive Producer Brad Silberling. "You ask REALLY nicely. Amy and Marie de Guise are a dream pairing of role and performer. Amy's a huge fan of the show and the actors, and she can't wait to come play."

"We've been waiting for just the right moment, and the actor, to introduce Mary's mother - the complicated and fascinating Marie de Guise," added Executive Producer Laurie McCarthy. "In a time when women held very little power, Marie ruled a nation under siege. Amy Brenneman's talent, strength and beauty illuminate even the darker corners of Marie de Guise. Amy's character will face off with Megan Follows' character (Catherine de Medici), not to mention her own daughter, Mary (Adelaide Kane). Hearts will break and blood will spill as a major battle of wits ensues."

REIGN airs Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW Network. For the latest updates on REIGN, follow us on Twitter at @CWREIGN, @CW_Network, @CBSTVStudios, and the hashtag #REIGN, as well as on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/cwreign and Tumblr at http://cwreign.tumblr.com/.
