DIRECTV GREENLIGHTS "THINGS YOU SHOULDN'T SAY PAST MIDNIGHT" FROM ACCLAIMED WRITER PETER ACKERMAN
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., April 1, 2014 - DirecTV announced today that it has ordered ten episodes of the original comedy, Things You Shouldn't Say Past Midnight, from award-winning writer Peter Ackerman. Production on the series is set to begin in Los Angeles in May of 2014. The latest exclusive from DirecTV will air on Audience Network later in the year and will be executive produced by Ackerman and Nick Hamm for Momentum TV.
Based on Ackerman's critically-acclaimed play of the same name, Things You Shouldn't Say Past Midnight examines a variety of modern-day relationships through the conceit that nothing good happens after midnight. Set against the distinctly unique backdrop of Los Angeles, the fictional comedy series takes the viewer on a ten episode, twelve-hour collision course that begins at dusk and explodes at dawn.
Ackerman's writing credits for TV and film include The Americans, Muncle Trogg for Sony Pictures Animation, and the Ice Age movies. On Broadway, his adaptation of The Pajama Game won a Tony Award for Best Musical Revival.
"As DirecTV continues to bolster the slate of original programming on Audience Network, we are thrilled to present Things You Shouldn't Say Past Midnight as our first foray into comedy," said Chris Long, SVP Original Content and Production DirecTV. "We have always placed a high premium on working with talented, prolific writers like Peter Ackerman, who challenge us to raise the bar creatively."
"We are really proud that our creative partnership with DirecTV allows us to push boundaries and produce truly original content," said Hamm. "Peter Ackerman has a unique comedic vision and on Things You Shouldn't Say Past Midnight he's created a fabulous world of distinct characters and hilarious situations."
"Television these days feels like the Wild West, with new players arriving all the time to stake their claim and create their own programming in fresh, new ways," said Ackerman. "Momentum TV and DirecTV are at the forefront of this landscape and I couldn't be more proud to participate."
