SHAKIRA TO SING "EMPIRE" FROM NEW SELF-TITLED ALBUM ON LIVE TUESDAY, APRIL 22 TELECAST OF "THE VOICE"
Coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton Also Set to Perform With Their Respective Teams
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - April 18, 2014 - "The Voice" coach and renown music sensation Shakira will perform "Empire" from her self-titled new album on a live episode of the Emmy Award-winning musical competition series Tuesday, April 22.
Her most recent studio album, "Shakira," was released on March 25. It is the 10th album from the wildly popular Colombian singer-songwriter and debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes charts in 62 countries.
In addition to the Grammy Award-winning Shakira, "The Voice" coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will perform a song with their respective teams on the April 22 telecast.
This will also be the first telecast this season that the "Instant Save" will come into play. During each live results show, the three artists with the lowest number of votes will be eligible for the "Instant Save." These artists will each perform a new song that represents why they should earn the save. Then, America will have the opportunity to save their favorite performer by tweeting out #VoiceSave along with the artist's name. The two singers with the lowest number of votes will be sent home each week until one winner is announced as "The Voice" on May 20.
Over the course of her career, Shakira has sold more than 60 million records worldwide and has won numerous awards, including two Grammys, eight Latin Grammys, four World Music Awards, three American Music Awards and five Billboard Music Awards. She is the only artist from South America to have a No. 1 song in the U.S., and has had four of the 20 top-selling hits of the last decade.
At the age of 18, she founded the Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation, which currently provides education and nutrition to over 6,000 impoverished children in Colombia and is expanding its work to other countries, including newly launched projects in Haiti and South Africa. In October 2011, Shakira was named a member of President Obama's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
The Monday edition of "The Voice" ranks as the season's #1 unscripted series on the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 and total viewers, averaging a 4.8 rating, 13 share and 15.1 million viewers in "most current" averages from Nielsen Media Research through the season's first 29 weeks. In adults 18-49, the Monday telecast is the season's #2 entertainment program on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox, behind only CBS's "The Big Bang Theory."
Tuesday's "Voice" is averaging a 4.4/13 in 18-49 and 14.3 million viewers overall and has led NBC to 20 finishes of #1 or tied for #1 among the Big 4 networks on Tuesday nights this season, the most Tuesday wins for NBC in a season in the history of Nielsen's current People Meter sample.
"The Voice" is a presentation of Mark Burnett's One Three Inc., Talpa Media USA Inc. and Warner Horizon Television. The series was created by John de Mol, who serves as executive producer along with Burnett, Audrey Morrissey, Stijn Bakkers and Lee Metzger.
