FYI NETWORK FIRES UP NEW ORIGINAL SERIES "RED HOT DESIGN"
FOLLOWS INNOVATIVE INTERIOR DESIGN TEAM AS THEY REPURPOSE SALVAGED TREASURES TO CREATE ONE-OF-A-KIND SHOWSTOPPERS
PREMIERES FRIDAY, AUGUST 15 AT 10PM ET ON FYI
NEW YORK, NY - July 18, 2014 - FYI's new one-hour series, "Red Hot Design," follows Shasta Smith, a cutting edge interior designer, and her team of talented "grease monkeys" who salvage, build and repurpose vintage scrap metal into phenomenal architectural elements matched with great color and fabrics. Shasta, the owner of Sacramento-based design shop, Vintage Monkey wields beauty, talent and razor-sharp wit to keep everything on track as the team juggles projects and deadlines. This seven episode series premieres Friday, August 15 at 10pm ET on FYI.
For the past 15 years, Shasta has served as ringleader of a colorful crew at Vintage Monkey. With her inherited eye for good finds, Shasta's designs go from scrapyard to centerpiece. From sketch to showroom, Shasta enlists the help of her team, sculptor Thomas Ramey; expert metal fabricator, Alex English; specialized welder, Tony Bures; and brainiac, Jason Chernowetz. Traveling throughout scrapyards for inspiration and materials, the Vintage Monkey team goes above and beyond creating works of art straight out of the vintage industrial era.
For a theater's neglected outdoor space, the Vintage Monkey team collected thousands of bullet casings from a shooting range and hand strung them to form a unique stage curtain. The team creates floor lamps born from simple steel mesh and a water pipe, used barbed wire into beautiful wreathes, motorcycle gears into table frames and the chandelier above a salvaged 60's shop serves as a conference table. Vintage Monkey may look like just a motorcycle shop from the outside, but the 2,000 square foot garage is lined with projects that exhibit Shasta's passion and her innovative designs.
