PAUL FEIG, SETH ROGEN, JASON SEGEL, LINDA CARDELLINI AND JUDD APATOW JOIN "FREAKS AND GEEKS" CAST AS HONOREES FOR THE 2015 "TV LAND AWARDS"
GRAMMY(R) AND OSCAR(R) WINNER JENNIFER HUDSON SET FOR MUSICAL PERFORMANCE FROM THE CHART-TOPPING "EMPIRE" SOUNDTRACK
New York, NY - April 8, 2015 - TV Land announced today that "Freaks and Geeks" has been added to the list of honorees for the 2015 "TV Land Awards," hosted by Terry Crews. Grammy(R) and Oscar(R) winner and best-selling recording artist Jennifer Hudson is also set for a musical performance at the ceremony, which tapes Saturday, April 11th at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, and will air on Saturday, April 18th at 9pm ET/PT on TV Land with simulcasts on Nickelodeon and NickMom.
"Freaks and Geeks," which will receive the 15th Anniversary Award, is a cult comedy series that aired on NBC for only one season from 1999-2000, yet continues to find new fans every year. Starring actors who have gone on to A-list stardom, "Freaks and Geeks" revolves around Lindsay Weir, her brother Sam, and their two entirely different groups of friends: the "freaks" - druggies and delinquents - and the "geeks" - the socially awkward who are just trying to get through high school. Series creator Paul Feig and executive producer Judd Apatow, along with stars Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, Linda Cardellini, Busy Philipps, Samm Levine, Martin Starr, David Gruber Allen and Steve Bannos are confirmed to attend.
Grammy and Oscar-winning musician and actress Jennifer Hudson is set to deliver what is sure to be an outstanding musical performance at the "TV Land Awards," singing "Whatever Makes You Happy" from the Billboard #1 soundtrack to "Empire," the new monster hit on FOX. Hudson, who got her start in the church and then rose to fame on "American Idol," went on to star opposite Jaime Foxx, Beyoncé Knowles and Eddie Murphy in the critically acclaimed film "Dreamgirls." Her stunning portrayal of Effie White earned her an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award, BAFTA, and an NAACP Image Award, among other recognitions. Hudson went on to release three best-selling albums, which have garnered her five Grammy nominations and a Grammy win. She has also recently been featured on chart topping hits with artists such as Iggy Azalea and UK duo Gorgon City. Most recently, Hudson was seen in a recurring role on "Empire" as Michelle, a music therapist and gospel singer who becomes close with one of the sons of a powerful hip-hop mogul. Additional film credits include "Sex and the City," "Secret Life of Bees," "Winnie Mandela," "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete" and "Black Navity."
The casts and creative minds behind "Parenthood" (Fan Favorite Award), "The Wonder Years" (Impact Award) and "Ally McBeal" (Groundbreaking Award) are among previously announced honorees, along with Betty White (Legend Award), Donny and Marie Osmond (Pop Culture Award) and a special tribute to the late trailblazing comedian Joan Rivers.
Michael Levitt ("The Daytime Emmy Awards," "Billboard Music Awards") and Casey Patterson ("Lip Sync Battle," "Guys Choice Awards") are executive producers, and Ryan Polito ("Guys Choice Awards 2014," "The Price is Right") is director. Greg Sills ("The Teen Choice Awards," "Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards") serves as supervising producer and Gary Tellalian ("American Comedy Awards") is producer.
